CN8 Expands Into The Steel City

Since there is no specific Pittsburgh TV board, or a statewide TV board for Pennsylvania, I'm posting this message here.

Comcast's CN8 cable network will, beginning tomorrow (June 1st), become available to subscribers of the company's cable systems in the Pittsburgh area.

According to a Philly.com article (link below), it appears that at first, there will be no Pittsburgh-specific programming on the Pittsburgh version of CN8, which leads me to suspect that their regional news programs (at 1, 7 and 10 P.M. weekdays), which cover news of Philadelphia, New Jersey and Delaware, would also be seen in Pittsburgh. By contrast, the CN8 newscasts are not seen in the New England region of the network.

Channel 188, on the digital tier, at least for now. And its first Pittsburgh offering will be a special next month on the Senior Olympics.

This is the release sent out by Comcast ...

CN8, The Comcast Network, owned and operated by Comcast Corporation (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK), strengthens its role as the nation’s leading regional cable network with its expansion into Pittsburgh today, June 1, 2005.  The network now reaches 10 television markets from Maine to Maryland including:  New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Hartford-New Haven, Harrisburg, Providence, Springfield, and Salisbury.

“CN8’s availability in Pittsburgh represents another great milestone for the network,” said Michael Doyle, president, Comcast Cable Eastern Division and founder, CN8.  “Our growing footprint demonstrates the credibility of our regional programming expertise.”
