CNN Brand In Crisis

Certainly, it's no shock, given the network's ratings of late, as well as rumors that primetime stalwart Larry King is being pushed out the door.

But somebody actually took the time to write an article about this:
http://www.brandchannel.com/home/post/2010/06/15/CNN-Piers-Morgan-Eliot-Spitzer.aspx

Quote from an unidentified media source on the future of CNN: "With talent like [former New York Governor Eliot] Spitzer on board, the people hosting the news will be more controversial than any guests they could book."

Good gawd!!!! Remind me to not bother reconnecting cable if this will be what passes for news channels (along with Fox Noise and BSNBC). Now, if I could just find a relatively-inexpensive source for college sports online....

I'll get my news from the interwebs, thank you very much. Even the cable news networks' websites are far superior to their "on-air" product.

Well, Fox News is cleaning CNN's clock in the ratings. I think the message to CNN is obvious: hire controversial anchors, hosts, and pundits who will attract curious viewers, regardless of their journalistic credentials. No surprise there.

As for Elliot Spitzer - I think he's a good choice. He's funny looking and not particularly telegenic (neither is Larry King), but he's amusing and very articulate. As to being "contorversial" because he was caught with hookers - that will pass. I remember that about 15 years ago, Brent Musburger had to leave sports broadcasting for awhile because he it was revealed that he participated in kinky sex. He came back a year or two later, and nobody cared anymore.

Musberger or Marv Albert? I remember Albert being in some trouble back in the mid '90s.

Oops...I stand corrected. Sorry about that, Brent! :'(
