CNN: Can't beat 'em, join 'em!

Noticed tonight that AC 360 with Anderson Cooper added a "news quiz", similar to what O'Reilly has been doing for a atleast a couple of years. I must say, Cooper's version seemed to move a bit faster and was more entertaining. Plus, a live audience. Hmm.

This should make Monday's edition of O'Reilly's "Reality Check" very interesting. ;D

"News Network" is so 1995......

Not to sound too curmudgeonly, but frankly, there is no such thing as a "news network". Decades ago, the OTA evening newscasts devolved into 5 minutes of headlines and 17 minutes of informational folksy blather. I don't watch the OTA morning shows, but happened to catch a TODAY show about a month ago. I was amazed that they spent about 30 seconds of the entire hour covering "news headlines".

The "news" cable channels have simply followed the same spiral. Fox News Channel taught everyone that opinion, snarkiness, and bright shiny objects will grab eyeballs. MSNBC barely succeeds by following suit, from a lefty (weekdays) and documentary (weekends) perspective. CNN has been trying to find the right combination of news and interviews and entertainment for years. They seem to always fail at interview programs and entertainment programming.

CNN also promotes some of their own documentary series that air mostly on the weekends (of course, the difference is, CNN still airs news on the weekends).

Meanwhile, I saw where CNN hired independent pundit Jon Avlon form The Daily Beast as a full-time contributor, and read a statement from a CNN spokesperson that the move cements their commitment to the middle, or something along those lines... yeah, a middle-of-the-road political strategist, and a former boxing analyst. Here's ensuring you'll stay "below the ropes". :D

Ratings are Ratings. Gotta get em' any way ya can! How is AC 360 doing anyway? I thought I read somewhere that that show has fallen 40%.

If new ideas (to the 360 show) work out better, then good for CNN! Good luck!

Too bad neither show is doing actual news... 'cause.. you know.. they're supposed to be on like a news network or something.

No, FOX NEWS CHANNEL has putting themselves in the place of two seperate networks since the Obama administration ripped them.

Heavy News during the day and TALK at night with commentators after 5 not anchors

But at 6 PM ET, they have "Special Report" and "Fox Report" at 7 PM, which, "All-Star Panel" on "SR" aside, both consist of news programming. In fact, I would go so far as to say that the opinion programming on FNC actually starts at 4 with Neil Cavuto's show.

MTV is a music network, but do you see them playing much music anymore?

Yet again, the silly old MTV references. Check the calendar, it's 2010, and just about the only people stuck in the "they're a music network" rut are far, far removed from the target audience.
