AT&T will even sell CNN to CBS or ABC even for $1 just to rid themselves of a money losing brand.
They would be stupid to do that. The CNN division made $1.2 billion in profit last year. AT&T has much bigger problems.
AT&T will even sell CNN to CBS or ABC even for $1 just to rid themselves of a money losing brand.
It would be a stretch. CNN is worth $5 billion and Nexstar is worth about $4.7 billion. They'd need a partner.
One of the articles mentions ViacomCBS, and they're in slightly better shape, valued at $15 billion.
At least it can't be EMF ... or can it?
However, the purchase of a wobbly bigger company by a solid smaller one is possible and has been done many times.
Except CNN is not a "wobbly big company."
AT&T has more wobble than CNN.
AT&T has to decide what they want to be. Verizon has a much clearer picture.
Except CNN is not a "wobbly big company."
They are in an industry that is totally clouded by change in distribution systems and compensation. With the decline in cable and satellite, the carriage fees are suspect. The revenue model for future distribution is not firmly established. And the use of news channels is predominantly older demos.
I once saw a news item about a person who died of a stroke while riding an adult low-rider bicycle on a slight incline. They figured he had gone several miles before the bicycle stopped moving. I think we might consider that all the cable news outlets are in that condition, but the length of the incline may be longer for one than another.
ESPN is in worse shape than CNN if we are going by cable revenues.
ESPN is in worse shape than CNN if we are going by cable revenues. Fox News is in trouble once Trump is out. This is not specific to CNN.
And, if that is so, the same logic would mean that MSNBC and... wazzit called... the other one... may get less intense viewing.
While most of the Republicans I know are Hispanic, I have been asking a few of them about media usage. They indicate that they will be spending more time with conservative media both online and via cable.
If this observation can be projected beyond my small and unrepresentative sample, there may be an increase in usage of Fox. And, if that is so, the same logic would mean that MSNBC and... wazzit called... the other one... may get less intense viewing.
It's all about dog whistles on conservative news stations. But with Trump gone their flame thrower will be diminished. Sure they will complain about Biden for 4 years but it won't have the same effect.Assuming they stick with all Trump all the time. I wouldn't watch that myself. I want to hear about other things.
Why would they stick with Fox when Newsmax and Oann are picking up steam. Even Trump is losing interest in Fox News.
Those two are borderline amateur with less professional production and graphics. And, for a moderate (and most Hispanic Republicans are very moderate) their opinion segments are way over the top Tea Party stuff.
You think the Beeb is any better? The cutbacks have hit them too. Shutting down bureaus, consolidating services.
Want to bet the president of the Seychelles has ever been mentioned on CNN? I'm not talking about this month, I'll accept it if the mention was in the last 10 years.
If the recounts are successful and Trump gets reelected due to finding the missing ballots. Fox News will still have viewers until January 2025 when Trump leaves office.
