CNN: How Low Can You Go?

DToTheJ said:
The venerable news network's primetime lineup have seen its lowest ratings since they started recording such data - and mind you, Campbell Brown and Eliot Spitzer are no longer with the network.

When CNN first debuted in the 1980s it provided actual news coverage. Not any more.

CNN's demise began when it dumped its original on-air team of anchors and reporters and spent millions to hire the likes of Connie Chung and Paula Zahn. Apparently the network brass at CNN never heard the phrase "history repeats itself" when the network hired Campbell Brown away from NBC and also former Governor Eliot Spitzer (a hire I could never understand at all).

As we draw closer to the presidential election I am sure the ratings for CNN will increase; especially on election night. After that one can expect to see another drop in viewership.

Do most viewers even care about news anymore?

It seems like most just want to find a channel that sympathizes with their own view of what is right/wrong with the world, and sit there nodding in agreement.
In between, throw me some fluff stories and show some hot chicks.

^Since many local news presenters and reporters are allowed to express their personal feelings about news during their broadcasts, I guess many folks in my area do not care much about news broadcasting. If enough of them had cared, these broadcasters most likely would not be continuing to broadcast their personal feelings with the news.

The common use of the word "personality" for a news broadcaster makes a lot of sense to me now when I think about the broadcasters who are allowed to express their personal feelings about the news they provide. I don't care much for personality in news broadcasting; I just want to hear information.

Look at this theres a TV series out by HBO (Time Warner Owned like CNN, HLN and TMZ)

This Drama "The NewsRoom" is supposed to be about CNN and Cable News/Talk behind Closed doors. I remember in 2003 HBO did a movie called "Live from Baghdad" about the 1991 CNN Crew covering Iraq War 1.

Kind of ridiculous that viewers around the world are watching CNN International with its top-notch newscast, while we Americans are stuck watching -- this.

I bet ratings would go up, if CNN adopted the same format as CNN International. Forget the name personalities, just do the news!

Too many sheeple who don't want to think for themselves. They want Bill or some other shill to tell them what to think. No wonder America is failing in the world economy.

Amen, brother. I spent a couple of weeks in Mexico last year and got to see CNN-I for the first time in years. Great service. Sadly, though, It would probably get even lower ratings, given that it's "fluff" and "hot chick" content is so meager..
