CNN, MSNBC ratings winners as Biden takes office

I noticed CNN also led all channels in the TV coverage of the Capitol riots on Jan 6th:

Curious as to what y'all might think the reason is for this? Obviously for the Biden inauguration, many more of CNN and MSNBC's core audience is watching and invested vs. the typical Fox News viewer, so that one's relatively easy to understand...But what about the Capitol Riots coverage? Is it because more now see CNN as a proper news source vs. the political slant that Fox and MSNBC are sometimes noted for?

I also saw elsewhere that Fox is losing viewers to Newsmax, and are making some adjustments accordingly. That may also explain the slump in Fox's ratings?

Exactly. Two pronged attack taking place at Fox, with new competition plus the loss of a real compelling story. Their main character is on the golf course.

The reason for CNN's increase is it's always been the network of choice for breaking news. They don't watch it daily, weekly, or even monthly. But if a big catastrophe happens, the typical viewer goes there.

What that story misses is they're down from record ratings the week before. So they were up 130%, and then down.

After the major stories of the riot and inauguration, things have settled down.

But I'd expect they'll shoot up again next week for the trial.
