CNN Taps Jeff Zucker As President

Can Zucker do his own worst-to-first? My guess is that he can't because MSNBC and CNN have put him in an inescapable box.

I can't understand why CEO after CEO can head companies that go downhill, bankrupt or worse and still command leads on other jobs.

It doesn't work like this in any other job. If you suck at one job, you have trouble finding another. But with a CEO it's always someone else's fault. Which leads me to question the value of the position (not the person but the position) itself.

Hmmmmm

I'm all for recycling but recycling failed executives is toxic for business. Jeff Zucker: Have Fat Rolodex, Will Travel.

Let's not forget the debacle Jeff Zucker made when he made Conan O'Brian host of The Tonight Show and Jay Leno got his own show.

Watch and see Zucker make a shambles of CNN and what used to be Headline News. He might could get anyone from Hollywood's B-List to have a talk show and compete with the others on HLN (Headline News)

Jeff Zucker was a huge success when he ran The Today Show. The one weakness CNN has had had been in creating news shows. Regular news coverage is fine, but crafting news coverage into shows has been where they've fallen down, and they need to do that if they want to compete in prime time. Jeff knows how to do that, and if it's the only thing he does, then he'll be an effective CEO.

Bad choice by Time Warner. I'm not sure there were a lot of people with experience who wanted the job though.

Fear not: Zucker's not going to turn CNN into a partisan news channel. (They're actually a partisan news channel already, IMO.)

CNN has some of the most balanced coverage out there actually. They always have both conservatives and progressives on their political coverage, unlike Fox and MSNBC.

Dude, have you actually ever watched Fox News? As a political independent, my news "diet" is varied. Often times, Fox actually seems to go out of their way to get someone with an opposing opinion on an issue.

Your argument is really totally off-base. Provide specifics if you are sure of yourself.

Depends on the show. Some hosts go out of their way to get an opposing view so they can beat them up. That makes for good TV. Nothing wrong with making good TV. That's what they're supposed to do, and the ratings says that's what they're doing.

Back to the OT, I think Zucker understands news shows. He may have been over his head running NBC Universal, but he knows news shows. He certainly understood the dynamic of The Today Show. If he can bring some of the magic of The Today Show to CNN, he'll be successful. He needs to create good TV. Then people will watch. Doesn't matter if it's fair or not.
