I think its safe to assume that more people trust CNN for news, while Fox News and MSNBC, which clearly offer a bias, are viewed as infotainment channels. Its not just this story, but the 2008 elections, health care reform coverage from the chambers of Congress and any other major story that captivates the nation or the world, and CNN comes out on top. They're the trusted news source, but they're also the source for your 'casual' news viewer, if you will.
Hey, it has been that way for 30 years! The Challenger explosion, the Berlin Wall collapse, Gulf War I, O.J. Simpson (the Bronco chase followed by the trial), 9/11, and now the Chilean miners...you know CNN has always been the place to be for all these and more.
However, I do remember one week in April 2003 when Fox Noise literally dominated the cable ratings, leaving Nickelodeon's annual Kids' Choice Awards and regular mainstay "WWE Raw" in the dust.
