CNN's John King: Amanpour Not Qualified To Host ABC's "This Week"

Not exactly a ringing endorsement from one of CNN's popular hosts as his soon-to-be-former colleague, Christiane Amanpour, prepares to exit as she anticipates to take over the anchor chair on ABC's Sunday morning "This Week" program.

King tells the website Mediaite that ABC's choice of Amanpour was "unorothodox," adding she "does not have a lot of experience covering American politics." Which, given her background of covering mostly international events for CNN, may be true. Which leads King to pose the question: "How does she fit in on ABC on Sunday morning? I'll leave that to them to figure out... I'll watch how it plays out with everyone else."

I had always heard she did not generate a lot of fans among her co-workers.
She has a reputation for being "difficult".

Heavenforbid they should get someone neutral to host their show. Someone who hasn't worked exclusively with one party and has who's journalism was limited to a sports radio show. Someone who made so many mistakes with the press that he was demoted (officially just moved) from Clinton's daily press briefings.

After all CNN has Anderson Cooper a model with no prior journalism experience, who by his own admisson called journalism a "hobby."

Yep that's what ABC and CNN need a bunch of "pretty boys."

But wait a minute what about David Muhr and Bill Hemmer. I guess if you're nice looking AND have some brains and talent, you get relegated to the poor slots. :)

THANK YOU! That's what I've maintained since this was announced....

You do know that we're talking about Christiane Amanpour, right? ::)

Neutral? More like "hard lefty". And, hey, if you're one too, that's ok - but she's far from "neutral". In fact, she's been rather outspoken in the past. And yes, she has limited U.S. political experience; that was never her beat with CNN.

You mean, the reverse of former Anchorage sports anchor Sarah Palin (nee Heath)? ::)

I respectfully disagree.

Admitting that I don't watch This Week that much (comes on the same time as Fox News Sunday and local NBC affiliate news) I was watching when Tapper was hosting. He had the Roundtable segment and they totally ran over him, to the point where he promised he was going to ask them a question but couldn't because they ran out of time. He wasn't in control.

He's not perfect but has potential. On the other hand, Amanpour isn't a good pick. The chemistry just isn't there.

You must have caught Tapper at a bad moment, Recto. When I've watched, he's usually pretty strong. Terrry Moran would also have been a good choice. ABC has probably chosen Amanpour partially to get people talking...some "star power" and all that. I read the other day that This Week is now rated third, behind Face the Nation on CBS. Not good.

...John King commenting on anybody's qualifications is like Nick Apollo Forte whining that Frank Sinatra wasn't qualified to headline in Vegas...
