"Be seeing you..."</P>

Well I saw the whole thing explode on "Inside Politics" Thursday(August 4th). At least Novak did apologize to the viewers.

At least CNN is a cable/satellite network, so it won't have to pay FCC fines.

Had this been on a broadcast network, you can bet the FCC would have gone after the network that aired it and that network's affiliates.

Having now seen the clip (thanks, Cranky Yankee, for posting a link to it!), I wonder if Robert Novak left the set because he realized that he said the "B-S Word".

Please clarify

In what way is saying "bull$hit" different from
promulgating "bull$hit" which is the very stock
in trade of CNN?<P ID="signature">______________
Appoint a special prosecutor NOW! For any imagined offense by anybody. The trial lawyers need the work; they multiply like rats!</P>

What was staged about this is that it wasn't that heated of a debate... it was tame by the old Crossfire standards. The real story here is that Novak was within two minutes of being asked pointed questions by Carville and the host about his involvement in the Valerie Plame affair. Obviously not wanting to deal with that 'lil subject of outing undercover CIA agents, he walked. CNN gave him the temporary boot (after a few weeks of lamely defending the guy), but he'll be back unless he gets indicted or something.

It's also perfect fodder for the right wing echo chamber, which is already telling its fans that Novak was persecuted by the liberal media and driven off the airwaves.

MSNBC will be pleased to hire Novak. They specialize in the leftovers the other networks threw away.

The Daily Show ran a hysterical piece on this last night. Unedited, which surprised me since they bleep out merde in every other instance.

Ironically, the guest last night was CNN's space guru Miles O'Brien.

Check it out on Comedy Central when they re-broadcast it tonight at 8p eastern.

Bob has had so little to do since CNN cancelled The Capital Gang anyway ...

Raise your hands. How many really care that CNN suspended Robert Novak? I sure as hell don’t. There are enough curmudgeons on TV to begin with. The loss of one more won’t keep me awake at night.

Personally I’m sick of Novak and the rest of these “sit around a table and argue about everything’ people like Novak, Carville and the rest of that ilk. Can’t these people find real jobs?

When CNN first went on the air over two decades ago they provided their audience with 24 hour news. And they continued that practice until some genius over at the Chicken Noodle Network decided it was a good idea to fire a large number of CNN’s original staff and spend money hiring these high-priced talk show hosts/celebrities. The same goes for MSNBC. As for FOX, they don’t carry news unless it’s first approved and edited by the RNC or the Christian Right.

So what you have today on these so-called cable news networks is basically musical chairs. Rita Cosby goes from FOX to MSNBC. Bill Hemmer goes from CNN to FOX. Tucker Carlson goes from CNN to MSNBC. (Stayed tuned because he might end up on the Comedy Channel next month)

How can you say that? Unless the networks hire people, to tell me, what I'm much too stupid to understand; how can I know? I mean I would much rather have someone else figure it out than have to actually listen and form my own opinion. Especially when I can watch people eat bugs or be pretending to live a real life.

And Bob's got more to stew about because the NCAA is outlawing his beloved University of Illinois mascot.

Anyone want to start a pool as to when words like "b-s-" become standard on these shows? Put me down for December 1

The 8pm rebroadcast are edited alot more than the later airings are.

Yeah, that would make sense. Must have escaped my mind.

I don't think so. Go check with the guys on the FCC board. If it is just in passing, accidental or heat of the moment it likely isn't going to offend the indecency standard. The Janet Jackson incident was not "accidental", as has been insinuated by Ms. Jackson.

Maybe I missed it in one of the postings- sorry if I am being redundant here.

CNN would not put Novak on leave for serious journalistic ethics violations in regards to Valerie P but they would put him on leave for using a naughty word on cable TV during a moment of (in his opinion I am sure) extreme aggravation. I would defend Novak's language- it just slipped out, he is hardly a potty mouth. He is free to get up and walk off the set to get a breath of fresh air and settle down- if only more people would do so... His apology for this incident is probably unnecessary.

I would think (perhaps incorrectly) CNN would have detailed guidelines on the ethical behavior of journalists and commentators it hires and puts on air. It has not so much as batted an eye on the Novak and Valarie affair but they are suddenly appalled at the use of a phrase in the upper middle of the dirty word continuum.
