Coast Radio

I was checking out the KKDV website and while they had plenty of photos in the "Coffee Break" section (they bring coffee to local businesses who win), there were ZERO in the section that's supposed to have photos of their events. Is nobody interested in the 'DV doing remotes at their businesses anymore or is that section of their site just down? No event photos at KKIQ's website either, although KUIC had plenty.

Is Coast Radio in trouble?

I haven't set foot in the place in nearly two years (since the studio rebuild) but I'd guess that the 'DV website updates just fell through the cracks. Coast Radio makes good money and is fiscally very sound, at least in general practices.

They are probably in far less trouble than CBS/SF is, especially adjusting for weight class.

Coast Radio (KKIQ, KKDV, KUIC) is very good at concetrating on it's target audience which is the tri-valley area (KKIQ, KKDV) and the vacaville/fairfield area (KUIC) small market saturation.

I am grateful for the opp. to work at KKIQ as a board op and graveyard announcer back in the days of Friday Night Fever, 80's block party.

Alot of talented people have walked through the halls next to Stoneridge Mall in Pleasanton...and when they were in a little strip mall in Livermore.

Sure their playlists can be thin and rotation can be heavy but they cater to what the listener's want. Local, Local, Local. And the advertiser's are still happy with the overall product.

They have all digital studios which for a 3 station cluster is pretty good given the small size of the Pleasanton studios and the vacaville studios (KUIC) are even smaller.

And their Live Remote Vehicle is always in use broadcasting live from some festival or car dealership nearby. A rare site with the "big boys" in the city by the bay.

Although some of the more talented folks have moved on.... I bet they would agree that time spent there was well worth the seldom pitfalls of working in this type of industry.

I'm just glad I don't have to drive the big blue ford van anymore!!:(

...And, thanks to the stellar work of John Higdon, KKIQ, KKDV and KUIC are three of the best sounding, best engineered stations anywhere.

Can I tell the story again about getting a demonstration of "HD Radio" at my neighborhood Radio Shack, and how the sales guy gushed over the pure, crystal-clear HD sound of KKIQ, which was the only station the box could pick up?

And how defeated he looked when I explained that KKIQ ain't broadcasting in "HD"?

Just nitpicking, but is it really a "live remote" if there are only 3 one-minute drops an hour from the jock on site? There's a jock in studio doing their show, so to me, these live remotes are just glorified call-ins.
