Coast to Coast AM

I realize that "Coast to Coast AM" with George Norry (and occasionally Art Bell) has a large following. I can't really understand, however, why so many people buy into some of the goofball ideas that these hosts talk about. I would rather listen to nails on a chalkboard than this show. Why in the heck do prominent talk radio stations air this stuff about UFO's and aliens? Is it because there's nothing else to put on overnight? I'm sure some fans of the show will bash me for posting this, but I had to get this off my chest.

1.) George Noory

2.) You got it off your chest.

3.) Now go listen to nails on a chalkboard.

I totally agree - all that nutburger stuff about remote viewing and aliens all over the dial. It seems like every other AM station I can pull in has Coast to Coast. And not just some graveyard freqs but 50KW worth of this crap on KSTP or KFAB. It would gag a maggot if maggots had radio.

Would be nice if there was something out there besides C2C and Trucker talk overnight. Is there no market at all for something else?
______________

Okay, fellas.......I've said this before and I'll say it again......C2C isn't what it used to be without Art Bell as the full-time host.

What do you guys suggest as a suitable replacement for C2C for all of them night owls out there to listen to?

Hmmm...If those folks that listen between, say...Midnight and five, are not listening to daytime/daylight radio, maybe refeeds of Rush, Glenn, Bruce, Phil,
Al, or someother daytime talk show would fill the bill?

Well, I was thinking of something original and live.
See, when you look at it that way, the options/choices are severely limited.
And that was/is my point.

There's Joey Renyolds on the WOR Radio Network. Live 1AM-5AM Easten.
There's America At Night with Kate Delaney and Dave DaBatto, which is distributed by Syndicated Solutions. That's live 12AM-4AM Eastern. IT used to be America Live with Ernie Brown. That was a good show distributed by Jones. Then it became America at Night with Ernie Brown. Not sure when these new people took over.

You answered your own question, the show has a large following. That's why so many stations run it. The topics may seem silly to some. But consider that for many many years (even pre-dating radio), people would tell ghost stories in the late hours of the night. It's just human nature, some people are going to enjoy this stuff. Just like almost anything that has a loyal passionate fan base, there will be many who strongly dislike it.

Yeah, but you know something? If you're going to have a national overnight radio talk show about whatever, be it sports, current events, the strange and unusual, moneytalk, etc. etc., you have to have a host with personality. Now Art Bell isn't exactly "Mister Excitement", but when he used to be the full time host on C2C he had a way about him (and still does) when it came to talking about unusual events and discussing with guests the truly weird subjects (UFO's and Bigfoot) that drew you close(r) to your radio.---Even if somewhere in the back of your mind you could hear a voice telling you that it's all a bunch of hooey, you still couldn't help but listen closely to Art Bell!

George Noory, on the other hand, is a nice guy, and he's smart, but he's also bland. Ian Punnett is even blander (if there's such a word)! George and Ian put me to sleep. A late night talk show host has to be a person with a sense of humor, among other things.

For the longest time now, it has been my feeling that C2C needs a serious shot in the arm! I honestly think that even though much of the C2C's content may seem silly to some (like the "face" on Mars).....it could still work (and be successful) for many, many years to come......if only George Noory were asked to step aside and be replaced with someone that has more personality, more humor, and a better way of "mixing it up" with the guests.

Perhaps it's your tiny mind that limits you to the 3D?

There's certainly room for the wierd stuff; I'd like to hear a great personality, doing "issues, but light". Maybe jake Hartford on WLS when he was on weekend nights. Rollye james does OK, just isn't on where I can hear her.
______________

It's called Entertainment!!

I figured out a long time ago, that radio is not a 'communications' medium, but an 'entertainment' medium. What gets ratings. Knowing the guy on the air is aligned to your side? Naw. It's more fun to see what kind of weird stuff is going to come out of peoples mouths.

In the case of Coast to Coast, all you need is an alien, some old lady who sounds like she has been smoking cigars all her life, to tell you which demons are in your attic, plus a call from a guy with tin foil on his windows to keep out the Government mind control waves and some guy out hunting bigfoot...and you're #1!
Oh yea, it helps that it's dark out. Art Bell's show would definately flop in daylight!

George seems to be making an Effort lately. Maybe he got a new producer. He had that Zeta talk lady on the other night, and has done something other than Government stuff lately. I was having alien withdrawl! Too much conspiracy stuff.

They should just have Hendrie do the Art Bell show. He's right on the money!

BoardmanDJ, I sometimes forget that you and I share something in common.....We're both huuuuuuuge fans of Phil Hendrie!

Have you ever heard Hendrie do parodies of Art Bell/C2C??
Oh, man! When he does them, they are absolutely hilarious!!

I wanted to listen, but I couldn't find tin foil for my windows.

Where do you get that stuff?

All Winn-Dixie has is aluminum foil and waxed paper.
