Coastal FM Saturday morning

This morning some decent FM tropo here in Poughkeepsie, NY from the Virginia - North Carolina coastal area. Nothing new, but nice signal from "The Point" on 94.9 from Virginia Beach, also "Rejoice 100.9" from Southern Shores, NC. Also getting an NBC-12 on TV channel 12. We're starting to get into the FM season... hoping for some good e-skip in the next few weeks.

Some openings here in the Chicago area this morning as I'm hearing some stations in Michigan across the lake.
The season is upon us.

From Poughkeepsie, NY, I tried a little UHF DX this morning after the previous post, and got my first analiog and first DTV reception of greater than 75 miles with newly acquired UHF antenna. I'm pretty sure it was Fox-43 from Virginia Beach analog with animal programming, weak audio and video. Then I was surprised to get my first DTV DX in the form of WUND DTV 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3 (rf channel 20) from Edenton, NC, 427 miles. It would come in for just seconds at a time, but picture and sound were great when the signal would lock in. Just amazing!!

I'm too far inland to be getting anything good this morning. I'm only hearing very weak Chicago stations and slightly better Wisconsin ones.

But this weather (already 75 degrees at 10:45 AM) is getting me pumped for the serious FM tropo and Es season. I actually have the used (but new to me) 28 foot antenna tower waiting to be refurbished. Think i'll do some of that this afternoon.

I think i'll have an awesome season and i've set a pretty hefty goal for myself. I want to get my 1300th new station and break some distance records.

Did you receive 105.7 the hawk, 95.1 WAYV and and any other Atlantic City stations? They were coming in where I am, clear this morning. Im located about 65 air miles south from Poughkeepsie

Wow, that's amazing, to hear FM tropo from Hampton Roads & NC Coast up in Poughkeepsie. I too heard tropo this morning from southern NJ and Philly area down to NC here in VA.

WXMM in Norfolk/Virginia Beach area was stunting at this time, playing what sounds like instrumental Chinese new age and I got the RDS display "Kung Pao 100.5". Among some stations I heard:

WYMY 96.9 Goldsboro, NC instead of WWUZ 96.9 (3 kW) Bowling Green, VA 23 miles from my home.
WQOK 97.5 South Boston, VA (Transmitter in NC)
WIKS 101.9 New Bern, NC
WXKW 97.3 Millville, NJ
WSJO 104.9 Egg Harbor, NJ
WRDW 96.5 Philly and few others on the Delmarva Peninsula

I didn't specifically look for The Hawk and WAYV this morning, but they are my most regular stations from the Jersey Shore. During the summer season, they can be heard pretty much anytime... especially WAYV. WAYV is sometimes strong and dominant, other times it's a battle with WRKI from Connecticut and perhaps WZZO from Pa. A local translator recently left 105.7 for 105.3, opening up 105.7 once again. On 105.7, The Buzz from Malta (Albany) is always there, and The Hawk will often mix with them or dominate them. The Hawk would occasionally override the translator on 105.7 (10 miles North of here), but now The Hawk is easier to get.
