Cobra Starship

How does everyone like Cobra Starship-Snakes on A Plane. I LOVE IT! That is good as well as Hinder Lips of an Angel and Gym Class Heroes-The Queen and I. Shinedown-I Dare You is great. CHR should try The Academy Is and Jack's Manniquinn and the new stuff from the Killers & 30 Seconds to Mars & Three Days Grace. All EXCELLENT STUFF! :)

Hinder, GCH, and Shinedown are good records.... the rest is best left to Alternative and Mainstream Rock, because it won't test with my core. Correction, the Killers might test... but the others won't.

Is this the same Cobra Starship that released the Hollaback Girl parody last year?

I'm surprised. I actually quite like this song. I'm really surprised that Alternative is sleeping on this song. I would like to see it become a hit on CHR, but we'll see if it has a place amongst all the decadent bubblegum and hip-hop.

I think the song would have done great if it had been pushed prior to the movie. At my station (a college station heavy on poppy alternative) its done well, and I could easily have seen it catching on with the CHR audience, however I think the song can't make as big of an impact now that the hype from the movie has worn off. Let's see if their full length has any songs that will work on CHR stations.

Is everyone hearing the same song I am? I'm surprised this has had as much airplay on CHR as it has. I actually agree with CHRprogrammer (it's a miracle!)... this just isn't mainstream material. Frankly, I think it's a terrible song to begin with, but that's just my personal opinion. Even considering some of the crap we hear in CHR, Snakes on a Plane is just awful. Mainstream should have nothing to do with it.

You honestly can't tell me that this song is worse than The Pussycat Dolls, Paris Hilton or Jessica Simpson. Nor is it worse than "Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It", "Grillz", "Laffy Taffy", "My Humps", "Shoulder Lean" or other mentally-challenged hip-hop tripe that's coming out. If there is a bottom of the barrel on the CHR charts, all of this junk has to be it. They all make Cobra Starship look like Radiohead or Tool by comparison.

Well, you already know how I feel about the Dolls ("Buttons" aside). As for "Stars Are Blind"... if it were any other female vocalist singing it, would you be as negative toward it? Simpson... she hasn't done anything good in... um... ever. She should've been shot for her remake of "Take My Breath Away" if not for something she did before then.

All the songs you mentioned are good examples of dreck, but you can't convince me that "Snakes On a Plane" doesn't belong on the same list. It may not be any worse, but it's certainly no better.

Well, I won't try to convince you. No one is going to put this song on the level with "Paranoid Android" or "Nuthin' But A G Thang" or whatever a landmark song in your favorite genre might be. I think of "Snakes On A Plane" as a guilty pleasure song, and like you said, there's music that is downright atrocious on the CHR charts that managed become huge. I'm guessing I like it because it's catchy and because the subject matter is unconventional.

As for "Stars Are Blind": Everyone brings up the "What if Gwen Stefani were singing it?" scenario, but that doesn't matter to me since I don't like her either. "Stars Are Blind" may be unimaginative corporate drivel, but for what it's worth it's certainly less annoying than Stefani hits like "Hollaback Girl" and "Crash". No "wonderful" couplets like "This s--t is bananas / B-A-N-A-N-A-S" at least. But at least Stefani had more of a role in her creations, however atrocious they may be - Hilton's consist of nothing more than off-key warbling filtered through the vocal correction machine.

That's why I didn't bring Stefani up :)

As I said on another board not too long ago, don't let me go into my idea of why she can't sing :D

the Cobra Starship song is ok. Won't go anywhere on CHR.

As for Paris Hilton, she has some catchy pop friendly songs that CHR needs. Too bad she just happens to be Paris Hilton. If she wasn't Paris Hilton more people would like it.

I personally think the fact that she's Paris Hilton is working more in her favor than against her. People worship her, and she did sell 70,000 copies of her album in its first week. But really, there's nothing special about her, musically or otherwise. Been there, done that. That could describe both her "music" and her love life. ;D She's just another person that wouldn't have a recording contract if not for all the studio technology that we have today that makes her sound like something other than what she is: a drunk tone-deaf harlot.

I'm sure CHR will kill this song just like every other alternative song played on a CHR format

ie Fall Out Boy

The Killers

Evanescence

Nickelback

Gnarls Barkley

Staind

That is pure bull. That song is one of THE catchiest songs I have heard in a long time. It's a far better song musically than London Bridge and it's more original. It doesn't belong in the dumpster that is CHR.

And the song WAS pushed before the movie, just not on radio.

And you have to love the fact that right at the beginning, they featured Samuel L. Jackson's already-classic quote from the movie, which I can't type over here but I'm sure you all know what it is.

It was pushed before the movie on radio, too... at least to radio stations. Most programmers, amazingly (and thankfully), were simply wise enough not to bother testing it.

That is an awesome line, though!

I love snakes on plane (bring it) great song. I think it should of been a hit on Alternative and CHR. BUZZ ROCK in Philly gets lots of request for it.

Don't know where you are testing it but it's blowing up in our area on Alternative.
