Coffey to return to WTPA.... Steve Knight to WTPA?

I vaguely remember back in the mid 80s Jim Cook and the Captain on Q106. For some reason, I am thinking the captain left Q106 and was a partner of Dan Steele at Sunny 99.7.

Yes, Jim was on Q106 in the '80s; he interviewed me for middays back then. I think the offer was something like 12-grand...heh-heh. And I'm not sure if you're right about the Captain working with Dan back then, but you got the station half right; Dan joined Sunny 99.3 in the spring/summer of '85 (shortly before I left, so I can't be certain who was on the air with him).

you are thinking of YCR....

OMG, you're right! God, it sucks getting old. I barely remember the experience, but you're right.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to dust some cobwebs out of my brain.
;D

Just for the record, I was PD at Q106 from 81-85 more or less, and did mornings with The Captain, Jim Cook replaced me in AM Drive and I went to Sunny 99 in the spring or summer of 85 to do mornings there. I did not have a partner in the morning back then, but later did mornings with Tom Shannon on Sunny 99.

Dan Steele

A bit of clarafication on the "Cooke and The Captain" and "Cooke and Crockett" teams from the guy who has been there since day one...lol.

I was doing mornings at WNOW-AM (WQXA's AM) back in 1978...when they were getting ready to change WQXA from beautiful music to Top 40. I can still remember all of us in the building helping to record music from vinyl to carts and reel-to-ree ( l rememeber they used a combo of carts and reel-to-reel...the reel to reel being leftover from Beautiful Music automation)

The very first morning person on the newly launched Q-106....was Liz Curtis. (an incredible talent) Liz was on til negotiations with Cooke were complete. Cooke was brought in...and he teamed up with "The Captain."

Cooke and The Captain did mornings on Q-106 til June of 1981...when Cooke was first dismissed. I filled in on mornings with The Captain on Q-106 for three weeks in July of 1981. Then..as Dan stated above...Dan Steele was hired and did mornings with the Captain.

Then Jim Cooke was brought back to Q-106 and re-teamed with The Captain. It wasn't quite the same the second time around. The Captain was let go and moved to Florida. I was teamed up with Jim Cooke at Q-106 in July of 1985. We were a team at Q-106 til November of 1988....when Cooke left to go to LASER 104 in Allentown. I left and joined Jim in Allentown in January of 1990. We were together doing mornings in Allentown til mid-summer 1991. Jim returned to York...I stayed in Allentown. This is when Jim Cooke teamed up with the "real Davey Crockett" and did mornings at 98 WYCR.

I returned to the York area in August of 1994. Jim Cooke and I re-teamed together at SOLID ROCK 92.7 Starview in mid-September of 1994. We stayed together thru the change from SOLID ROCK 92.7 to 92.7 THE EAGLE. Jim Cooke and I did mornings together at 92.7 THE EAGLE til April of 1998....when I left. Jim left THE EAGLE as well shortly thereafter, and went to 98 WYCR again for awhile. He has since left the area.

I was hired by OLDIES 96.1 (now 96.1 WSOX) in August of 1998, and have been there ever since.

Hope this clarifies some of the YCR....Q-106.... Jim Cooke and Captain and Real vs fake Dave Crockett teams.

The "fake" Dave Crockett (lol)

Anyone else remember Ed hosting the morning show on Baltimore's 100-GRX?

That is where I first heard Ed, back in the mid-1980s! "I'm Ed, he's Jim, he's Mike" was the line that always followed the news. My mother just wanted to be warned when the Farr King was going to be on. Wonder whatever became of Steve, Ed's perpetual first-time-caller ???

I felt lost without my morning team on GRX, but found Ed on WTPA eventually. Then I followed him to Cool Pop, but stopped listening when I couldn't tolerate the new Mix format. :-\

Hope he is ending up somewhere. He's one of my favorites!

If ya turned on your radio and dialed in 93.5, you'd hear promos with Coffey, Jammer and Amy playing a few times an hour.

They're all back on Monday. Thank God for some good radio in Central PA.

Well, is it obvious that I'm not listening to radio at all these days? I'm just now figuring this out!

Amy, too? Awesome. I sold her some Avon lip balms a few years ago. She and my daughter have the same birthday. I really liked her!
