"Colbair Repohr" on (Forced?) Hiatus

Comedy Central's "Colbair Repohr Wednesday night was a repeat, although the "Daily Show" was new. One would guess that maybe Stephen Colbair had a health issue, but there are suggestions that this might NOT be the case. Tonight's "Colbair Repohr" will also be a repeat. Could it have anything to do with the "Super PAC" that has been receiving actual money and inserting itself into the actual primaries and caucuses?

Considering the timeliness of the two series, as they play off the current events, I wonder why they couldn't use guest hosts to keep the show running, just like what Larry King and Johnny Carson did?

There's a world of difference between those examples. You'd almost have an easier time doing that with the Daily Show (assuming you could find a suitable fill-in, which is not necessaily easy), but Colbert is so wrapped into the character that a guest host isn't really logical.

Moreover, being on scheduled breaks has not dented the show's overall popularity when it returns to fresh episodes (nor the Daily Show). Assuming for the sake of argument all works out ok in the end behind the scenes, it will be a non-issue for the show's popularity.

A few months ago, Stephen Colbert was a guest on Terry Gross's "Fresh Air" on NPR. Stephen actually referred to the persona he displays on his TV show as the character he plays. I forget who it was, but one guest in the final third of his shows became irritated at Stephen's questions and replies and blurted out that he wanted to discuss the issue with the real Stephen and not his character. Stephen was actually nonplussed for a moment.

I suspect everybody's making too much of this unscheduled absence. It's probably just some typical life-event that he hasn't revealed yet. One possibility I heard - his mother (age 90) is in declining health.

I doubt seriously that Viacom (owner of Comedy Central) is giving him trouble over his Super PAC. The whole campaign just makes him more popular, and I assume everybody realizes that the whole point is to expose political Super PACs as evil instruments that buy elections. I'm sure he'll end up giving the money to charity, or something.

NY Daily News says it's an illness in the family, without getting more specific. They say he'll probably resume taping the show for same-day airing, next week.

Let's hope everything will be OK by then.

Colbert and Steve Carel actually did "guest host" for Jon Stewart when he was on Award Show Duty.

Which works better on that show, not to mention with the ability to do advanced planning.

Jordan Levey was talking about this on his talk show... He was wondering if a "missing person" report was filed.

You mean a missing person "repohr"? ::)

The Daily Show is more of an ensemble effort. The Colbert Report is more or less a one-man show.

When Colbert does a sports segment, he calls it "The Spore Repohr."
