So, if all of these people are dead or gone, what's your point? I'm trying to understand where you are coming from. Cold and heartless? That's a bit extreme. A good business decision...guess we will have to wait and see.

its the nature of the industry. as trends change so do radio stations. nationwide rock isnt doing well anymore. hell new york city doesnt have a modern rock station! and didnt the active rocker in chicago just flip to oldies? its not 1995 anymore. grunge is dead! the seattle scene is dead.
it will be ok. i havent had a station to listn to that plays all of what i like since 1990 when z rock flipped back to classic rock on wrno. you can alwways get xm. i did. and so did 6.5 million other people. plus there is plenty of alt rock on the internet. and a lot of those are free.

OK, first, keep the capslock off!

Second, I tend to think that we here at R-I (unofficially) follow the same rules in terms of cursing that radio stations do. "Assholes" and "Shitadel", I think, are uncalled for. Basically, A good rule for posting is to imagine whatever you're posting is being broadcasted over the air. If it sounds pretty indecent, then rephase it. You could have made that post somewhat valid without cussing and screaming.

Third: Yes, it does suck that N.O. was crippled by a hurricane, it does suck that many people lost everything. It also sucks that New Orleans loses it's only full-time modern rocker. BUT, life goes on. What will probably happen is that it will show up again on another radio station. It may take a week, a month, or even a year, but I think that's pretty low on the priority list right now.

Fourth: "Shitadel" are not total "assholes". If they were, the end staff would be looking for new jobs right now.

Now that your mouth is zest-fullly clean (R) , please come back to the sandbox and play nice with the rest of us.

Good luck once again to all of the Gulf Coast...and I do hope that N.O. will eventually regain a modern rocker.

First sorry about the bad language but corporate radio is really pissing me off. I am tired of the useless decisions on what "WE" want!! They don't care about what "WE" want, they only care about themselves!! Maybe if they did there homework they would see that 106.7 had a country station and it went knowhere. N.O "HAS" 2 other country stations already:WHY A THIRD!! My 13 year old daughter can make better decisions then these corporate "DEADHEADS"!! To answer your third point "YES THEY ARE" MY POINT "THEY ARE ALL OUT OF WORK AND THE LISTENERS JUST GOT SKREWED!" After everything N.O.went through a lot of people turn to the radio for comfort aned laughter!! So all of those people who listened to "THE END" turned on there radio and heard "COUNTRY" to me got back stabbed by #$#%adel!! I THINK SIRIUS AND XM SHOULD GIVE OUT FREE RADIO'S TO EVERYONE IN SOUTHERN LOUISIANA!! MY PREDICTION, THE ONLY THING LEFT ON FM WILL BE SPANISH, ETHNIC AND TALK BECAUSE EVERYBODY ELSE WILL BE ON XM OR SIRIUS!!

Re: Time for a mouth washing...

can you please tell me what the other country station is? wih 101.1 and 106.7 thats 2. wheres the third? and 1067 is not a country station. its a country rock station. now turn your dial 2 frequencies back. are you on 106.3? good. now you have found the station in new orleans that plays some new rock. yea its not all new rock. but who likes just new music? not me. yes i agree they took off the wrong station. but i really expect either 100.3 or 94.9 to be rock stations soon. if not both of them. also check out 97.9 wcpr. it comes in in new orleans. x1049 is clear in hammond. maybe it also will come in on the northshore. and then there is 103.7 in hattisburgh which has a really strong signal.

TO SMASHED CD:
Thanks for you comment.
yes, trends change but you can still run a station right without skrewing it up.
what are the two top complaints from listeners:
1. tight playlists
2. format changes
#1 is the reason why nationwide rock isn't doing well. Corporate radio (pointing to cheap channel and cbs)has destroyed rock radio by playing the same 250 songs over and over again! GEE WOULD VARIETY HELP. I got an idea, album cuts, 80's hair bands, crue, cinderella, anthrax, maybe more than the one kiss song i hear all the time, etc.
your right thank god for satellite radio. but for someone who has been working in radio for years, I HATE WHAT IS HAPPINING.

that makes 2 of us. i also worked in the industry. i got out sept 1998 and i got a real job. i got married and could not support a family for 20,000 year!
i actually like what they are doing. but i also like anthrax, slayer, ozzy, megadeth and ac/dc. and that is not what was on 1067. they were an alt rock station. i dont like alt rock! i miss rock 92.3 they played it all! as i said before dont bring back the end. bring back rock 92.3. then we will all be happy.
i may hate this station in a week after i start hearing a lot of repeats. but for now i like it and there seems to be more variety than what is on 99.5 or 101.1..the 2 stations they are aiming at.<P ID="signature">______________

MY TWO CENTS:
I personally would listen to the end on the way to work, all day at work, and on the way back home. The radio was locked. If I was near a radio and it was on, it was on 106.7. Why? My number one reason was because of the on air staff. Second reason was the music.
I have been dealing with not hearing the so called "new rock" since the hurricane. Believe me - it wasn't much of a loss. Others complain about hearing the same songs all the time, I was tired of hearing different songs that all sounded the same. My point is that I could live without the new rock format. Would I rather hear new rock on the end -- absolutely. But most of the time, the music was in the background being ignored. It wasn't until the end of the songs that I really listened to the station. Most people flip stations during commercials - I was flipping during the songs.
As long "rockin' country" is on the air with the same airstaff, I will be listening. That's what I listen for. I get my rocks off listening to other people living their lives and making fun of themselves. I enjoyed calling up with my smart ass comments just to hear my dumb ass on the air. I have also been known to actually submit something of value to a show by bringing up a topic or sharing a point that made whoever it was on the air at the time think about something a different way.
Maybe I am just a freaky fan of the personalities or something. But I feel that they are a part of the family. To me, that says something about the on air staff. If they are able to bond with the listeners like that, who cares what music they are playing. I may not like it, but I am listening for the air staff, not the music.
Does anyone here remember when Rod Ryan left to go elswhere? Usually you wake up one morning and hear a new idiot in place of your favorite jock and no mention of the person(s) they replaced. Not so with Rod. Hell, it was announced on air almost a week before he left. What other station would do that. And to then throw a going away party?? Who does that? It would never happen in any other city. What about when Ron and Don were let go. No send off party for them -- why? They couldn't bond with us. This is what makes the New Orleans market unique. We yats bond with the local media here --- radio and tv. We make them superstars when no one outside of the New Orleans area has even heard of them. Formats that work here don't work anywhere else and vice versa.
So to end this rambling... if you enjoyed what you heard, other than the music, on 106.7, then give it a try. The Morning Train Wreck should be back in the mornings on Jan. 25. I don't know who else will be returning to the air or when. We may have to listen to nonstop rockin country until then, but I feel it would be worth the wait.
By the way , consider joining my new Yahoo! group.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/KKND/

There's already a few members of the air staff as members. Let them know what you think. Just please don't use it as another forum to attack anyone, including the corporate assholes.

Just my two cents....

I guess you are around Laplace or somewhere's in the river parishes by the radio answers.

The Gator lost cause country was hot but not that hot... Not like with the fan base now IMO... Gator used remixes and sped up songs to drive country thru a top 40 style filter which didn't work. Rockin country is just a country station with out the redneck pop diva and a few almost burnt classic rock songs (want fun, Citadel? I wanna hear Nickelback "picture" followed by Keith Urban's "Days go by" with out a liner ..Now that's Rockin:)

Whereas I will agree Citadel in one way was stupid as hell for blowing up what (with the sale of 94.9/94.7) was their 2nd highest rated overall station and becoming a ledgendary station in 106.7 (Saving the Diva which I find is going modified hot a/c more and more by the day and should have been blown up and out), you can see; in a way, their model is good with country, considering WNOE was number 3 or 4 in the market, and a force to go after.

Technically KCIL 107.5 advertises as Houma/Thibodaux/New Orleans but with 28kw (and a cp for 69kw) the station is still a rimshot into New Orleans.. WHMD from Hammond suffers the same fate.. Actually 7 country stations are received in New Orleans (100.7,101.1,101.5,106.7,107.1,107.5,107.9) but all except 2 are rimshots and people, when they can't hear the music well on a rimshot tune out.. So technically WNOE had no competition, something Citadel tried to go after with a format that is usually left for third place stations in a market (Sorry but most outlaws,Rockin' countrys, and other country stations off the beaten path are usually trying to make a place for themselves and Citadel didn't have to try unproven to work I think..either a country station aimed at 20 year olds or classic country would have been my better bet)

I'm pissed that I lost KKND..I tell you the truth... I've been forced to listen to x-104 from BR which at times is a rimshot for me, and one aimed more at the teens that they played to last year before Citadel blew up 93.7 in BR than a overall rock station that caters to Generation X and Y. Anyhow, Citadel has a thing for blowing up rock stations around here and noticing they screw up later Sorry...

If the other market players were smart, It's an open invitation to move forward on changing formats to New Rock ..To which they can be awarded a good share of listeners.
My bets are to look at 105.3 (doubtful but no one thought the zone was gonna blow up), 99.5 (as the people who know new rock are there and the ratings have gotten a beating since Bayou.... a modified mainstream Hard Rock station would be what you'd see here than Alt rock...easier to convince suits to change the playlist a little than go full bore new rock) , and 94.9 (logical choice as they were looking for a format to blow the praise out with , BUT I haven't seen a Dowdy station with new rock yet..but being a only player may move Wayne Dowdy to go this way considering this station was new rock before also)

But personally I agree with Smashedcd on one thing...tell Ms. Diva to go get lost and flip 92.3 back to Rock with Sig and Vydra in charge.... You'll see the numbers go up in both towns go up personally.

Dude, FYI: the only members of THE END that still have jobs there are: SIG, Vydra, Tank and Ginty, Ginty is no longer on air (he is the Prod Director for the 4 station cluster - with no notice of returning to the air - as far as I have heard) SIG is no longer PD at 106.7 (That is now Johnny McQueen - WHAT?!?!) Instead SIG is doing the PD duties for BR THE RED - and Vydra is doing the MD Duties for The RED - Which puts two people out of work in BR and Tank is doing Promotional stuff for DIVA and will be for 106.7 The Morning Trainwreck will return on the Country station But let's recap... END Jocks still have jobs? OK What about Wolfgang, Denver Crabb, Jay Stevens, and Me (Jace Edwards - I was fired with a year left on my contract! No Severence no payout, let go due to a clause about Natural Disasters taking the station off the air over 6 weeks... yadda yadda yadda) NOW tell me Citadel takes care of it's peeps... I beg to differ as I have bounced around four different states on unemployment and have little to no archives to make a proper demo with...

Still unemployed and snowboarding off my friends dimes!
Jace.

Re: Time for a mouth washing...

sorry dude about your situation but this is radio. it happens, and it happens all the time. people are let go all the time in radio its nothing new. we have all been let go during housecleaning of a new station before including myself. i moved on. i got out of radio because of the fact that there are only 3 clusters to work for. and if you have a family you get tired of moving all over the place. but thats radio. hope you get a gig soon. remember the great jocks of wckw, wrno, wnoe am, wtix am 690, lite 105, wail 105, 1053 the zone....where are they now? wheres touchdown? wheres gary hale? randy rice, jim nasium....

I know what you mean Jace. I do miss hearing you guys on the air. I used to be Jason Reed at B-97, but honestly I loved you guys! I remember when I used to work nights at the B and I'd get off at 5am, jump in my truck, and have "tHe eNd" on my radio.

I was "let go" from Entercom and B-97 and I don't wish to return to radio,... probably every again. Truth is, I'm happily working in television making a lot more money.

Ya know, I speak to New Orleans radio legend Bob Walker often. He's a friend of my family and he told me NOT to get involved with radio nowdays. He told me the corporations pretty much sucked the life out of radio, while making asses of the listeners. They don't care. How true, but I didn't listen. I went anyway just 'cause I grew up listening to B-97 and I wanted to be part of the stations history. I don't believe the PD treated me fairly most of the time, but I guess that's corporate radio. I would get my head bit off if I said "I'M Jason Reed." Funny... 'cause still today, I hear the others saying "I'M!" Hhhhmmmmmmmmm... I wonder....

Jace bro, good luck to you and your future endavours! Take care!

Unfortunately, most of the staff is not there anymore, I believe Sig and Vydra will be the only remnants of the on air staff. Ginty will stay on as production, but not on air. Wolfgang, Jay, Jace...All gone. Even Jessica the prize mizer is gone.
