Colin Cowherd is a piece of trash

Nothing more, nothing less.

WWE Wrestler Eddie Guerrero passed away on Sunday due to a heart attack. He was only 36 years old.

I got an email from an ESPN Radio listener today. He said that he was listening to ESPN radio earlier today, "The Herd With Colin Cowherd", and Colin Cowherd said some rude comments about Eddie Guerrero's passing. He accused Eddie and other wrestlers of steroid use. Cowherd said, "who cares that he died" and that Guerrero's death was not "newsworthy." He also started speculation on the "unknown causes" of his death.

I called ESPN headquarters on behalf of the other emails I received and according to the ESPN rep I spoke to they've been getting "thousands upon thousands" of phone calls from angry wrestling fans. The calls have been coming in by the droves that ESPN can't handle them all and they've had people come in from other departments to help take them. The switchboard operater has NEVER seen such an incredible backlash or response than the one they have had in the last few hours. It looks like ESPN is going to take some serious action against Colin Cowherd.

The ESPN customer service number has since been disconnected due to the thousands of calls.

This guy is a total scum of the Earth and deserves to be fired for the tasteless comments he made this morning. I don't care what you think of pro wrestling, its absolutely disgusting to make statements like that.

More than a bit of an overstatement. You admit that you didn't hear the segment yourself, I'd suggest you go back and listen to the link before you call for him to be flayed alive.

To begin with, the cause of Eddie Guerrero's death has not been determined yet. Cowherd didn't speculate, and he never said "who cares that he died". He didn't speculate about his death, and said that he wouldn't. He was talking about the newsworthiness of the death, and where it would fall in news coverage. He was asking if it was a sports story, an entertainment story, or where it else it would be covered.

His point was that wrestling fans are a large audience, but not one that necessarily crosses over into the mainstream. You can look at how the mainstream media covered Eddie's death and see that was an issue.

Cowherd is not a wrestling fan, and never has been, but even at the end of the discussion, his producer (and guest Rocket Ismail) had convinced him that wrestling was more popular than he realized, and almost every guy grew up watching wrestling at some point.

ESPN won't take action against Cowherd. That's just a lot of people who don't listen to his show upset because they perceive him to be ripping on them. Just like most situations, the people who are the most angry are the ones who weren't listening in the first place.

Isn't it far more common that when a HUGE negative reaction to a media source arises, it is driven by scads of people who do not have any first-hand knowledge of what actually transpired? This was an embarrassing rant, for sure. I appreciate the rational response given to the initial post. As Rocket eloquently stated, please slow down and resist posting emotional raging assertions. It is a free country, sure, but such stuff just makes everyone else cringe at your ignorance in this matter. Take a breath and inevitably look a lot smarter.

I did listen to the segment from beg. to end. The clip is provided. He attacked the sport and pretty much pissed away his death.

He didn't attack the sport. It's not a sport. That's freely admitted. And as something that's not a sport, it doesn't have to be covered by sports media.

He's obviously not a fan of wrestling. Quite a lot of people aren't. It's a niche, sort of like NASCAR or hockey. When Dan Snyder died a few years back, it wasn't the national lead story.

If he had "pissed away" his death, it would have never come up. It turned into a discussion on celebrity, and how the media covers obituaries. Where would someone who was very popular to a certain segment of society, but unknown outside of that niche, be covered.

It's an entertainment show. I though it was very entertaining for Cowherd to be corrected by his producer, and Doug Gottlieb, and also Rocket Ismail, all pointing out that a lot more people watch wrestling than he thinks.
