Colin Cowherd Is Leaving ESPN

Might bring more listeners to FSR, but then CBS Sports Radio thought Jim Rome would do that for them, and it hasn't happened.

Report: Dan Le Batard to get Colin Cowherd's ESPN Radio slot

ESPN Radio hasn’t announced who will be replacing Colin Cowherd in the 10 AM-1 PM slot past a series of guest hosts in August. But if a report from Greg Cote of the Miami Herald is to be believed, Cowherd’s replacement in the timeslot will be a familiar name – Dan Le Batard.

It is not official yet. ESPN has yet to announce it. But readers of this blog were the first to know because I can tell you the popular, ratings-winning Dan LeBatard Show With Stugotz is planning a move from its current afternoon radio time slot to earlier in the day. Barring an unexpected last-minute snag, the show will air 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on ESPN Radio in the space vacated by departing Colin Cowherd, still with a possibility of adding a local hour from 9 to 10.

For ESPN, the brand is more important than the talent. The anchors for SportsCenter are interchangeable. They spend money to get the rights to major events. People watch those events. The rest is gravy.
And on radio, it's no different as ESPN Radio has the radio rights to a lot of major sporting events too (MLB comes to mind here)

As for Dan Patrick getting the boot on FSR - Wuuld be just as well considering he's on NBC & NBC SN as opposed to Fox & FS1 on TV. So why shouldn't NBC Sports Radio pick his show up ?? #NoBrainer :D

JMO.....

Cheers & Happy Holidays :)

Here's a reality: Pro sports like the NFL and Wimbledon are not going to take LESS money for their rights. If ESPN wants to be the network that has major events like that, they need to be able to pay for them.
REALITY - ESPN Radio DOES pay for radio rights just like CBS/Westwood One does

Don't believe me ?? Fine. Ask Major League Baseball if ESPN pays for radio rights or not. Don't just take my word for it.....

In the meantime, don't be saying things if they're not true

Cheers & Happy Holidays :)
