COLLEGE ATHLETICS THAT GET IGNORED!!

I'm going to be one of the people calling Volunteer State's men's and women's basketball home openers tonight. Pregame coverage begins at 5:50 pm on 88.5 FM
WVCP. If you can't hear our 1000 watt signal, go to www.volstate.edu/wvcp and you can hear the stream.

I doubt The Wake Up Zone or any other local sports show is going to say anything about the game.

Which brings me to my first point: the only time that a 2-year school is mentioned on radio or TV are during ball games when a "JUCO TRANSFER" makes a decent play.
WHY IS THIS? If I go work for a Nashville radio/TV station, would I be considered a "JUCO TRANSFER"?

Secondly, Who's gonna listen to MENtality Anyway? Not me!! If there was a "Non NCAA Zone", I could host it. I keep up with a lot of stuff. Not a lot of people know this, but the conference that Vol State is in was really competitive last basketball season and is going to be as competitive or more this season. Looking at the preseason polls, Southwest Tennessee on the men's side and Chattanooga State on the women's side are the favorites to win the conference this year. And oh yeah, Trevecca's Lady Trojans are strong this season as far as I know so far. Haven't heard a men's game yet. (their games and the men's games are on 89.1 by the way) THIS IS INFORMATION THAT WOULD WORK ON AN ONE HOUR SHOW INSTEAD OF SOME FIVE PAGE PULLOUT IN THE TENNESSEAN BEFORE THE SEASON STARTS (ACTUALLY, VOL STATE WAS LEFT OUT THIS YEAR FOR SOME STRANGE REASON)

I CLOSE WITH THIS: TWO YEAR SCHOOLS DESERVE MORE CREDIT THAN COLLEGE CREDIT!!

Well, looks like you beat me to the definitive answer on this one.
 
What good does it do to have moderators if they talk trash to regular posters? What kind of attitude is that, to beat down a poster who is passionate about something.

I tend to believe Jet is correct. I think people in the local media ignore the area colleges. The Tennessean pullout was pathetic.

The cover only had photos of mostly Tennessee and Vanderbilt teams.

There are a number of colleges here locally that don't get any attention.

The Tennessean won't even put recaps in the paper of a lot of area teams games.

They say their job isn't to promote sports, but they won't even include anything but a score of some teams and some sports at local colleges.

I do believe with all the air time in town we could use some shows that do something beside talk about the Titans, Preds or complain about UT sports.

I'd like to see a show that features the coaches for the local colleges like Belmont, Free Will Baptist, Cumberland, Lipscomb, Vol State, Trevecca, Martin Methodist, Fisk and the other OVC schools.

I give a rats patoot and the thousands of area graduates from these schools would appreciate the talk.

If not a specific show, maybe a show about local colleges, at least occassionally get the coaches on for a few minutes a few times a week.

Let's hope the moderators start acting like they are supposed too and not mock the passionate posters, especially a young one coming into the business.

Jet, keep the faith and don't let the old coots beat you down. Speak your mind, I think you have something worth saying.

So, if you are a moderator, you are not allowed to comment?
NSSB has as much right to his opinion as you do. Despite what
your narrow minded idea of the first amendment continues to
be. He did not sign an oath to "say nothing." And, if you
actually read any other boards on here, you would see many
more posts from moderators that would make NSSB's post look
like:

ESPN girls on The Fan billboard. ----- G -rated.

Go get yourself some form of a life, or date, or something to
de-stress your uptight self.

to go far in the real world. You have a lot to learn. Loosening
up is where you start.

Jet can take the heat. You beat down NSSB's comment about the stupid
Fan billboards a while back, now you trash The Tennessean (which is
always deserved) and you call people you don't even know
"old coots" assuming you know them by age. YOU shouldn't throw
those stones here, if you are going to complain about anyone
else (including Bob) doing it.

I do agree with you about someone at least mentioning the
teams you listed. Give credit where credit is due.
 
My old coot might have been out of line, but my direct comment about the moderator beating down a young radio person was a direct hit. The moderator shouldn't have made the comments he did. What other people do doesn't relate to what the moderator here did. Just because Hitler was really bad, doesn't mean that Saddam isn't bad too. I used Old Coot, because the belief is that the moderator is much older than a college student. I don't have an issue with older radio people. I'm an older radio person. I have thicker skin than you would know. So, do as you preach and don't assume things about me that you don't know. Second point (or 20th) is that I have been successful and remain so. You're also assuming that because I don't like (BLEEP) on billboards that I'm uptight and need a date. I have a date, its my wife. Not wanting trash on a billboard doesn't make me up tight. I also don't have the time to read and keep up with everyone's messages in the past. You might want to take your own advice and get a life and get off the message boards once in a while.
