As you can tell from my previous post I enjoy college radio! It seems like quite a few of the posters on this board are frustrated "jocks" or "PD's"... So why not get involved as a comunity volunteer at a local college station and then maybe you'll know a little more about what's going on in radio today or be able to share your wisdom with someone whose looking to get started in radio. There is also quite a few non-air positions as well. Like creating and print out logs, oh wait that's what a traffic director at commercial stations do, or how about creating ID's ect just like imaging directors do, you could also help out re-filing music and updating the music library. Just a few thoughts for you all to ponder.

The bets bet is to inquire about doing a show on WDIY. WMUH has their big guns as well as WLVR. And at WLVR they tend to favor people who play bloated 70's rock like Budgie. So, if you want to play some cool underground indie stuff you may get the shaft. WDIY is the place to contact. And, you will learn a lot more also. Neil Hever will truly show you how to do it properly along with legends like Carlos Benjamin and Kate Riess.

Yes. Every friday night he does his alternative show. His wife Kate does the saturday night show. They are both legends!

Thanks for the great info on Wdiy, Pickle! I try to typ only on the things I know and WDIY is not one of my strong suits so your input was great!

Anyone know of other regional college stations that turn their summer schedule over to "non-student" volunteers?

as discussed earlier i believe, WLVR does, and one of my favorite college stations to listen to KUR is announcing that this summer they are allowing school alumni to do shows if they're already trained and were involved in the station in the past.
