Colts/Pacers on radio

Not only that, but I generally prefer Slick and Mark to Al and Quinn or Bob and Ted (not so much Ted) to the announcers Du Jour for the Colts (particularly Madden). Professional sports do get Arbitron points according to my sales staff.

We also get calls at the studios when the radio and TV are more than a second out of sync. So people obviously do both.

I've caught the Q95 pregame show a couple of times when I've been down in Indy during a Colts game... they do a pretty outstanding job. I don't doubt there's a healthy number of people who tune in and listen to that (and postgame) as well.

For fun the next time you listen to the Colts on radio, count how many mentions Lamey does right before a break. Then drink that many shots. You'll be passed out before the second quarter.

I listen to the radio for two reasons...one, I haven't turned on my television is months because I prefer the radio, and two, since I had the cable turned off (my son watches TV when he is over), there has been no need for the tv.

Besides, there must be a reason to carry the games. Doesn't Q95's ratings go up when the Colts are playing?

I think you'll find Pro Football brings more ratings to radio than does Pro Basketball. I think it is primarily due to the time of day the majority of games are played and the time of year. It is much more politically correct to sit on your A$$ and watch the Pacers play on a Tuesday evening in January as opposed to a Sunday afternoon in October or November when you could be cleaning the garage or putting up the Christmas lights.

I second that one heartily. I'm usually glued to the TV set during Colts games (but that's simply because I'm a bigger fan of the NFL than the NBA and want updates on other game scores) and use radio a lot more with Pacer games.

I also bring a radio to the Dome and the track. The track broadcasts keep me apprised of stuff I can't see from my south-chute seats and the Dome is so old that the graphics up on the Jumbotrons tell me very little. Radio pbp even with a delay gives me replay explanations when the crwod noise drowns out the ref.

Nobody has mentioned it, but I believe the Colts buy the airtime on Q95 and sell the advertising...so essentially, Q95 is making cash on a Sunday afternoon when they would be playing a few ROS spots.
