AllAccess is reporting today that Emmis has picked up the radio rights to the Colts starting next year. Games will be heard on Hank and WIBC.

I was shocked several years ago when WIBC *lost* it to WFBQ.I used to baby-sit Colts broadcasts at WBOW/Terre Haute a long time ago, when WIBC had the contract, and they really did a spotty job of appropriately signaling affiliates about breaks. IIRC, there was often no pre-broadcast notices or tones on that channel -- the broadcast would just start suddenly, and you'd better have the channel potted up.

I think the Colts fit WIBC better than the Pacers do. (Night signal issues; most Pacers games are at night)Now my quandry is: why on Hank and WIBC? And now the search for affiliates will likely begin -- I'd guess the deals struck with 'FBQ are effectively invalid, but that most of the stations will sign on with network indiana. To Mobiline: the Pacers games are 100% automation-compatible, I'd guess the Colts will go that way too.

It doesn't surprise me that WIBC is back in the mix. The HANK think is a bit of a surprise, but they might be trying for an FM signal for night games, etc. I believe the Colts do their own affiliate work, correct?

Good luck picking up Sunday and Monday night games on WIBC in many areas in Indy where the signal dies!

Obviously, the Colts are back on the station that IS Indianapolis........WIBC.radioho...it sounds like the games will be on HANK too....that takes care of any night signal issues that WIBC has.Wow.....WIBC & Emmis will have exclusive Indy radio rights to:Everything at The Indianapolis Motor SpeedwayThe ColtsThe Pacersand IU sports.Pretty Strong!and it leaves more time to hear REO Speedwagon's Riding the Storm Out on the FM dial on Sunday's.

Not only that, but we should be hearing some better pregame shows produced by people who know sports. Dog and Zup?

You guys are talking about the pre-pre game show that airs only on the flagship, right? I think an hour's pre-game for Bob Lamey is too long, honestly. And I HATE the two hours of call-ins afterwards.

The trend around the NFL is FM-based radio stations. I believe that HANK-FM was the deal closer, not WIBC. If you check, the other teams have FM as flagships. (Chicago has WBBM-AM, but that is a 50KW blowtorch, so no nighttime problems)I think what also closed the deal is that Emmis promised more air time during the week. Frankly, FBQ had 15 minutes after B&T, the Colts were probly looking for 24/7 cheerleaders.Thoughts...

Dog's entire analysis each week can be summed up in one sentence, just repeat it over and over and over...."If the Colts play up to their potential - they should win this game!"It's going to be difficult for WIBC to replace that kind of insight. Oh that's right, Wank's there to cover it. Such awesome sports broadcasters in this town! Can't wait - MORE VINCE WELCH!

I agree about Vince Welch. He is a true pro. BUT...Honestly, the first thing I thought of when I heard about this was..HOW BORING. Any sports coverage on WIBC is sooooo bland...ASIDE FROM THE ACTUAL PLAY-BY-PLAY....Kevin Lee has no opinions and if he does, Big Brother won't allow him to say it. At least with Q95, it was entertaining, WIBC is so boring and bland. 3 hours of post game coverage after losing that says "Well, they tried hard and just fell short..." That sucks. Same with the Pacers coverage, I am not sure if it is Kevin Lee or if he was told by the club, but it is sooo sappy and lame. Not just on game nights, but their sports show through the week. Just my 2 cents. GO COLTS!

It was sarcasm ... I'm as tired of him as I am of Garrison and King. At least Kevin Lee IS a sports guy. You don't have to be [a jerk](like me) to be a show host - just take the show in the right direction. Again, at least Lee has a RADIO background.[EDIT*=Strong language]

Did anyone stop to think that the Colts 2007 season is 14 months away? How does anybody know who will be involved in broadcasts & coverage? Hopefully Lamey, Grandpa Ted, Zup & Denari will still be involved....but who else?Hopefully Joe Staysniak.....he offers good insight as a former Colt. Plus Vince Welch would be great! He is one of the best sports guys in this town (radio or tv) over the last dozen years.

I agree...Lamey eatingTed groaningZup gruntingDenari candy-coatingHow do you ever replace that? What do I know? I'm just another bitter ex-radio loser that is upset because I'm not good enough to have a job in the field. You guys know anybody like that? Back to "The Shack". I have a couple that want dish netwok in their trailer..
