COLUMBIA COUNTRY CHANGES

I've been away. And, I admit I haven't been keeping track. But Jeff Roper is no longer featured on the New92 website or MySpace, and I can't even Google the guy. What happened? Did he drop off the face of the earth?

Also, looking at the WCOS website, I only see Charlie and Tumbleweed featured. What happened to the chick that used to co-host? What was her name? Pam?

I don't know anything about Jeff Roper, but do know that Pam Wilder left WCOS in July. She had another baby (3rd one) and she and her husband decided to move back to her hometown to be by their families. I hear they are interviewing for her position.

As for Jeff Roper, I believe he was there yesterday when I was listening and hopefully WCOS will find someone good to fill Pam Wilder's position because frankly Charlie James is boring and would rather listen to Jeff than Charlie in the morning any day and it will be really interesting to see what is going on there too.

Very interesting.....

So, could this possibility mean that Jeff Roper may be WNKT's "player to be named later"?

Or, did he resign to pursue station ownership with the new FM allocation (the one filed by his wife)?

The non-comm CP is not a sure thing. There are a lot of other candidates that have many more potential "points" that would give them a preference.

My outsider speculation is that 1) Jeff was paid a lot; and 2) the numbers just weren't happening. Both are prime reasons for a non-renewal.

I find that very interesting but not surprising especially since that is what he did with WSOC in Charlotte and they did the same thing. Of course then he was in the middle of that lawsuit as well, but he thinks that he is better than he really is

Jeff was a bit of an ass, but he has a reputation at being good at country mornings (caveat:I never heard one minute of his New92 show). Did this just happen- is it actually possible that I happened to check the site (for the first time in over a year) right when he got released?

now it makes sense

Maybe it is unrelated, but this might explain the call a got from a friend in Sin City,a couple weeks ago, with questions about the area. Wasn't Rick Taylors (WWNU's PD) last stop before Columbia Vegas?

It could very well be and who is to say that Rick will be on air in the mornings until they find someone because he was on air with Jeff before Angie was on the air with Jeff and frankly, he did a darn fine job.

I don't know Jeff Roper...never laid eyes on him and never heard him on-air, but here's what I do know. He (and maybe his wife and/or other partners) owns WJES/Saluda; WLUA/Belton; WKSC/Kershaw; WCRS/Greenwood; WYOR(FM)/Cross Hill; WULA-WRVX(FM)/Eufaula, Alabama; and may have a couple of unbuilt permits. I think the primary corporate entity is Big Fish Broadcasting.

Jimmy says: Tyler and Mac Kenzie are the new morning show, Mac Kenzie is coming in from "up north".

I heard that Roper wasn't the only 92.1 personality leaving. I heard rumor of a new group in tx.

I personally feel that 92.1 will be a better station with out Jeff Roper.
I listened to him in the morning whenn I was in college in Cola and he never excited me in any way.

Just wondered if New 92 has thought about long time country icon Glen Garrett. He could be a plus considering his longevity in the Columbia market. Not to mention the market is very familiar with him. Glen is a warm personality that would fit right in for mornings or afternoons. I hope they consider him. I think he has much more talent than Roper ever had. Clear channel has no idea what they lost. If this were to happen, wouldn't it be a great kick in the butt for WCOS (clear channel)?

Glen probably has a 1-year non-compete. Generally, Clear Channel holds all their folks to one year. Even if they are fired.

In South Carolina can CC make that stick?
I think Glenn would be good for WWNU, and I believe CC really screwed him.
But that is CC, lets get rid of a local 30 year voice and replace him with more voice tracking.
Sure he has fans and is great for the station, but think of the money we will save.

Glen has a good honest sound that comes right on thru the radio, country music and Glen go together. I wish I could afford him for a little while.

I have been listening to New 92 in the mornings and it is boring. I wonder when they will get the new morning show going because Rick Taylor just does not get it by himself.
