Columbia market TV changes

WOW!!! That is a very interesting read... One thing I did not know was that Ken was with Channel 10 for 20 years... I thought he came to the station in the late 90's, but maybe my memory is fading... CC1

This tells what most of already know, cut the highest pay checks out except for my own and hope that since this will save money during this depression that the viewing public won't change the channel to look for someone who they already know. This idea of lets cut the higher pay checks out, what the heck we will loose some of our best talent and most trusted people or faces, voices, personalties, ect... but we will survive and still make our money. No offence to any of the people who are left behind to take some one else's place or pick up the peices so to speak, some are good some wellll but no matter what you do it is just not the same and no matter how you sugar coat it some of the best talent is gone or changed to a position where they can not function very well and the stations weather TV or radio loose viewers and listeners and the market as a whole drops a little more each time in quality and has a little less audience of viewers or listeners to work with. It's called the best way to a slow death.

My problem with WIS is that not only are they probably the higher paid employees, but the better ones and many of the ones that they have hired lately either cannot speak properly or use correct grammar and they seem to be the ones doing the more important stories, and I personally will change the channel because of that and have actually been watching WLTX more lately for my local news because of the stability of the newscasters and how professional they have gotten and actually enjoy seeing them do the news.

Count me as one of the people that cannot watch local news in Columbia.

I spent about 20 minutes watching WIS last week and got lost in counting the mistakes including...

"Von start main weather here" CG that was put up at the end of the weather forecast.

Columbia does not need 2 hours of local news every night...especially when WIS and WLTX refuse to do any 'hard news'. Both stations seem to litter their broadcasts with weather, pre-produced network pieces, and fluff stories.

Do some investigative work. There are plenty of stories out there.

Poor Jack Kuenzie. Good news man lost in a sea of futility.

Lhsh you hit the nail on the head, most of the people I seen change from WIS to WLTX (and I mean a bunch) complain that they can't understand what the newscasters are saying a lot of the time that their words are not clearly spoken, I have noticed this too.

Unfortunately gone are the days of Ed Clark and Susan Aude who were extremely professional in everything they did and what you saw on camera iswhat you saw off camera. Not only did they strive to be porfessional but were very demanding on themselves and other reporters as to voice, punctuation, and frankly I miss that. Many of these new reporters that they have hired need to go back to school to learn how to speak and how to write.

yesterday, I watched portions of WIS, WLTX, WOLO and WACH newscasts. Some of the reporters and even anchors, can't even speak distinctly much less eloquently. Grammar, syntax, writing, presentation and presence are all in short supply. What's interesting is that when they post an opening, they make it sound like you've got to be a Rhodes scholar to get hired. Apparently all you need is a pulse.

All the newscasts around this area are getting to be like that. It seems like half of WCSC's reports are from the network or one of their sister stations.

Over the last few months, WCSC lost Anthony Miller (now in Tampa), Hatzel Vela (now in Phoenix), Matt Horton, and Bob Behanian.

WCIV lost Renee Williams, Sarah DeMarco, and one or two others, and WCBD lost a couple as well.
