Columbia, SC cable television

Columbia, the state capital of South Carolina, got their firs cable system back in 1978. The system started with 12 channels, then began an expansion to what it is today.

This is from the State Newspaper in July of 1978, their first lineup.

2: CBN (Christian Broadcasting Network)
3: WIS (10, NBC) Columbia
4: CCTV Local Origination/Community Billboard
5: WTTG (Ind.) Washington
6: CCTV Public Access/Financial/Sports (with FM background music), also WJBF (6, ABC) Augusta programming
7: WTCG (Ind.) Atlanta
8: Local government access
9: WLTX (19, CBS) Columbia
10: FM Background Music
11: WOLO (25, ABC) Columbia
12: WRLK (35, ETV/PBS) Columbia
13: CCTV Educational Access/News/Weather (FM background music), also WRDW (12, CBS) Augusta programming

HBO was also an optional channel on the system. This will be a continued series.

MSG (Madison Square Garden)/USA Network sports added on Channel 4.

WRJA (27, Sumter, PBS/SCETV) added on Channel 23 or Channel J.

September 1979

ESPN added on converter as soon as it started on September 7.
