I've watched the New 92 discussion over the years with interest. They seemed to have started out with the best of intentions and certainly sold Jeff and I on the idea of coming back to Columbia to take on Clear Channel. In my opinion, things started unraveling the very first week of 2005 when I moved back. Reneging on agreements, both verbal and written, was the writing on the wall that I noticed immediately. And honestly, Margaret Wallace, the GM at the time, tried her very best to make things happen, but the chain of command there back then was convoluted and flawed...apparently fatally. I hear people say stuff about Jeff Roper and I am always very quick to say that during our time together at New 92, Jeff was nothing but supportive and gracious in his dealings with me and as far as I'm concerned, we were always on the same sheet of music regarding the direction of New 92. My differences with the organization started and ended with the PD...then again, I apparently wasn't privy to his set of marching orders from the "higher ups" that he had to answer to...but I can tell you that the list of people that he had to answer to wasn't long. I feel for people like Eric Chaney and Tim Miller. They are both awesome guys and talents who worked as hard as they both could day in and day out to make New 92 and Legends as good as they could make it under the circumstances.
