Columbia Square history special tonight on KNX

Read on LARadio.com today that KNX' Michael Linder is going to broadcast a one history of Columbia Square at 10:05pm this evening (Friday) on KNX. The offical sign-off of Columbia Square is at 12 midnight tonight. Get your tape decks ready for this one. The program will also be streamed via the KNX website as well.

EDIT: Just heard on KCAL-TV that the new studios are on at 11:05pm this evening.

It was a wonderful piece. Spent a bit too much time on the early days of Columbia Square, in my opinion, but only because I have only known KNX as an all-newser, and was looking forward to hearing those sound bites. Had hoped that the piece would mention George Nicholaw, the mentsch (Yiddush for good soul) who launched the all news format and stayed with the station until being pushed out two years ago. His editorials were a big part of KNX, along with the phrase "if you have a different opinion, we'd like to hear from you". KNX maintained that intimate feel during his entire reign. I was also hoping to hear more of the sound beds that were used until 2003...such as "All You Need to Know...KNX 1070....Newsradio"

To my ears....once the transition at 11:05p to the new Miracle Mile studios took place, the sound was a bit crisper. Dave Williams made mention was made on air about Chief Engineer Scott Mason's work to create the new studios.

Peace is the word, and the Voice of the Peace is THE station, 24 hours a day. (Tribute to the VOP 1540 which broadcast for 20 years in the Eastern Mediterranean)</P>

BTW, I was listening on the Web (even though 1070 comes in like a brick in San Diego) so I could record the last hour. I laughed out loud at 11:05, because when the studios got switched over to Wilshire, the Web feed did not - it went dead after the applause ended and Dave Zorn killed his mic.
