Columbia-Susan Aude Retires from WIS

N

Susan Aude broke her hip six months ago, and since then many have called, sent emails, even stopped WIS employees on the streets, all wanting to know when she is coming back. She has been the face of WIS news for more than a quarter century and the conscience of the newsroom. And now, Susan has decided to retire.

I remember the first time I saw Susan on Channel 10 (in '78), and thinking how gutsy she was put it all out there. Later, when I worked for WIS Radio in the mid-80's, I had the chance to chat with her briefly on two or three occasions. I never found her to be anything less than what you saw on the screen...genuine, down to earth and very approachable.

My God, when she and Ed Carter (with Joe and or Dave) anchored the 7 and 11 o'clock reports, I don't think I've seen another station (in ANY market) that could've touched 'em.

Look up class in your old Webster's...you'll see Susan's picture, to be sure.

It is a sad day knowing that Susan has retired. I remember when she first came to WIS and i have also had the pleasure of meeting her in person a couple of times and she is a great lady.

Susan Aude... I never thought she'd step down until she was put under, you know?

She is what Columbia news will always be remembered as, period. I grew up with her and Ed Carter on WIS.

Now, that was a team, and with Joe Pinner...

Unstoppable.

I remember those days fondly. You are correct, at that time, no one could touch their local news with Susan, Ed Carter, and Joe Daggot on sports. It was the standard that everyone else aspired to attain.> I remember the first time I saw Susan on Channel 10 (in

What's even more touching is the reaction of the current newscasters reactions to her retiring. I remember when I was a kid also growing up on Susan, Joe Pinner, Joe Dagget, Ed Carter, and Jim Gandy on weather. Now that was a hell of a crew.

With Susan retiring from TV news for me it is like loosing a member of the family... I remember seeing Susan back in 78 when she did the weekend WX broadcast and would go on to do news... I had the chance to meet Susan during my teen years while I was at a camp with all blind teenagers and she was nothing but class... Even when I was at the Deaf & Blind School up in Spartanburg if I got control of the TV during the 7PM hour I would swing the big ole' radio shack antenna on the top of our dorm south just to see Susan do the news... Like so many stated Susan, Ed, and to two Joe's 19 and 25 did not ever even have a chance... Susan goodluck to ya... CC

Ten needs a makeover anyway. Good luck Susan. Maybe Wheel of Fortune will get a new slot now. Oh Vanna.........

You've got to be kidding. The insipid, worn out Wheel of Fortune in place of THe Seven O'clock Report? Yeah, that would be a real step forward. Let Vanna's big head stay on 25. Of course, I wouldn't doubt Raycom wwould do something like that---they aren't exactly know to be strong on news.

I live here in the Atlanta area but lived in the Columbia area briefly
in the early 80's and visited a lot since until my late Father left
there in 2000. I remember Susan as far back as the late 70's when she
did the weekend newscasts at 7PM and 11PM. She was and still will be
one of the best newscasters, bar none. She will be missed and all the
best to her!!

I agree with you totally-Susan and Ed Carter, in my view,
were not only the best news duo in Columbia, but one of
THE best in the entire Southeast, and yes, including the
larger TV markets. It never dawned on me until several
years after watching her that she was physically disabled,
which only proved that her poise and her professionalism
shined through and through.
