Columbus Another Sports Talk Station?

With WBNS-FM locked up as FM sports, I don't see anyone being foolish enough to try sports, but then again it's Columbus, anything is possible.

I don't think one is needed. What is needed is for 1460 and 97.1 to make arrangements with an outside third-party to carry the conflict games their stations can't handle (i.e. send the Indians or occasional Dial Global broadcast to, say, 103.9).

if you count WBNS AM and FM separate since they don't carry the same programming all the time we already have 3.

Exactly. Besides the 2 WBNS', there's Fox Sports AM 1230 WYTS that nobody listens to.

Edit to add: In Columbus you can pick up 700 WLW from Cincy and WKNR 850 out of Cleveland.

I really don't see any of the AM's being a factor there are 31 stations in the market that rank higher then WBNS-AM. It would Have to be a FM.

But we do have WBNS FM and they already have a lock on OSU, the Blue Jackets and ESPN. What would you put on another FM sports station to draw listeners in Columbus?

Hmmm...You know initially I agreed with the posters on here who thought it was ridiculous to think there would be a need for any other sports station in Columbus...initially.

1230...I can't remember EVER tuning into this station since it has been sports and I don't see a reason to. It is just a satellite operation which doesn't come in to clear on my radio...I love the Reds but I will watch them online when I can.

1460...satellite stream....scratchy signal...snore.

97.1....Ohio State....and...uhhhh....well, Ohio State, cbj, OHIO STATE

So who is covering local sports? Who is telling the stories about the other schools in our communities with more then a wink and a nod?

Would it get the ratings that 97.1 does??? I doubt it...but I bet you it is a commercially viable format for a struggling freq.
