Columbus, Indiana to get 3 new FM Stations

In record time the FCC has given former Connersville frequency 100.3 to Korn Country
at Edinburgh. 102.9 now goes to Hope.
A construction permit has been issued for 90.3 in Columbus and the Commission is
about to allot 93.5 there as well.
This amounts to 3 more stations for Columbus and a total of 12 stations for that
city of 39,000.
 
You know, it would be SO easy to follow that up with "and all 12 suck!".....but that would really be wrong.

I guess this means it's official that WXCH (103.1) is packing up and moving to Hope (as 102.9)?
Does Versailles have any other radio station or did they just lose their only local radio station?
 
A lot of other things will have to happen before some of those Columbus stations pop up...

The WXCH move to 102.9 in Hope will have to correllate with the boosting of 103.1 WRKA in the Louisville market, as they are moving from a Class A to a Class C2 and moving their stick northeast of their current location.

Also, for 93.5 to be legitimate in Columbus, I'd assume 93.7 from Seymour will have to complete its move to 93.9 in Sellersburg (dropping from class B to class A).

From what I understand, Versailles has FM service from a religious station on the non-comm band. Quite honestly, WXCH really was a Versailles station in name as well as they simulcasted WSCH in Aurora. So by that rationale, is Versailles really loosing an outstanding service to the community?

Well, its a safe bet that Seymour's 93.9 is headed for Louisville. This will happen VERY soon.
WXCH can move to Hope long before any move is done with WRKA. In fact WRKA's move is contingent upon WXCH's move, not the other way around.
To start building these station, the first thing that needs to happen is for WYGB to move to 100.3. Then WXCH will move to Hope and WRKA will get their increase. This was a very complex move, only a small portion of which was in Indiana.
Boy I'll be this pi$$e$ off you-know-who (who co-filed).
 
I'm not sure who is so supposed to be so pissed off by this "move of the century," but it sure won't be WRB. It doesn't matter if Korn is on 102.9 or 100.3 and WXCH is on 103.1 or 102.9. They're both horrible stations with people running them that have no clue what good radio is. WKKG or any of the WRB stations have nothing to be concerned with. Actually, moving WXCH out of versailles helps WRB because it removes the main competition for WRBI in Batesville. Marty couldn't make it in the Columbus market when he owned 104.9, eventually selling the station to WRB. He couldn't cut it in North Vernon with 92.7, selling it off to Blair Trask. Which, by the way, the "new" 92.7 still sounds just as bad as it did before, just with a new name. Hell, take all three of the stations and put'em all on the same frequency and combine all their power! It just doesn't matter! I have no idea what 93.5 even is?...again, it won't matter. Why all these other guys have such a woody for trying to beat WKKG is beyond me, it isn't going to happen. Especially if they continue to put the same kind of product on the air that they always have. And bmprfg...I'm surpised you'd make a comment about "all 12 stations" in the market sucking since you contributed to/programmed one of them for several years.
 
That's called tongue in cheek, and I was waiting for someone to respond. I'm proud of my days at WRB. They're a fine company. Don't you just hate it when people don't get sarcasm?

Actually my comment was not aimed at WRB.. With all due respect... It was aimed at Marty Hensley because he voiced strong opposition to this move and argued (with some legitimacy) that he should have been entitled to 100.3. This wasn't a dig at Marty, I was just voicing my thoughts on how Marty would react.
I don't think anyone here has classified this anything close to being the 'move of the century'?
I wonder, BuffStuff if you believe WRBI is a better programed station than WXCH or KORN (just trying to figure where you're comming from)?

Gotcha Jimbo. You know, I figured you were either referring to WRB or Hensley when you wrote that. I should have assumed the latter since I think he's opposed every radio deal that happened around central Indiana for the last however many years. My reference to the "move of the century" was based on rumors I've heard that Pieratt has been running around telling people that WRB's GM is "going to hate him soon." I'm sure they're shakin' in their boots. As for WRBI...yes, it is a local yokel station much like WXCH but I do think it is a better on air product. As for Korn, I don't know that you can compare the two because the only thing really "programmed" about it is the computer hard drive. Without jocks and the local "stuff" in between the records that makes radio enjoyable for the listener it will never amount to anything more than someone's second or third alternative.
 
I don't know why anyone would have a woody for beating WKKG.
Qmix has been beating them for the past 2 years in 12+ and all female demos.
Qmix is the station to beat in Bartholomew County.
 
And their listeners have all of their own teeth! Sorry Buff, just couldn't resist.

Koba...that was my point, not sure why all the other owners have such a desire to beat WKKG but the reality is they do. I'm sure all those 12+ Qmix listeners spend tons of money with their advertisers too. As for the female demos, I'd be interested to know how you or anyone at that station would be able to break out any demo or daypart. I can't imagine they're shelling out the kind of jack it costs for the arb books. Maybe they just "stretch the truth" on the street, kinda like they do with "50,000 in attendance" at the fireworks.
 
As I"ve written before, I work at an advertising agency and our company has a contract with Arbitron.
I do have the County By County numbers in front of me and I stand by my original statement.
WRZQ is #1 12+ and all female demos in Bartholomew County.
Due to our agrement with Arbitron, I can only post 12+ numbers here on Radio-Info.
