Columbus, OH Radio One Shuffle

So Radio One does it again

They move a station out of the top 10 to a weaker signal 106.3 and putting on a burned out Adult Hits format. Sure it might get some advertisement from other companies vs. the Urban Gospel format. Seems like the cluster in Columbus is trying to bring in more cash flow. Notice how Radio One is making changes with their stations in other markets.

Dallas, St. Louis, Philly, and DC over the past year.

Moving Magic to a waeker signal not that smart but it somewhat did caught us off guard.

The fact that Magic was a top 10 station is more of a wonder than an expectation: There are not a lot of African-American listeners there (Columbus' 2010 Census population only 28% Black--the entire Arbitron market isn't quite 15%).

Better to serve those listeners with a rimshot than pulling the format altogether. The Columbus, OH board mentioned something about AM 1580 being available, that might be option for Radio One to seek.
