Columbus Radio Predictions 2012

There's a post like this going on over on the Cincinnati boards. What do you think will happen this year in Columbus radio?

My predictions:

Mix transitions into CHR.
We will see a format flip on either 1039 or 1071.
X1067's numbers will not be impressive at all.

What do you guys think? What formats will enter Columbus?

I'd say 103.9 or 107.1 will flip but not to CHR but to a comedy format. I notice that format is firing up in quite a few markets. X 106.7 will probably start getting better ratings than 102.5 due to sound quality complaints 102.5 gets. Mix will continue as is and maybe Jack fm will add some current tunes into it's music mix so it won't sound like another classic hits station. If you compare Jack to Logan's 98.3 sam fm you'll know what I'm speaking about.

Smooth Jazz: It is starting to come back in markets, and with the popularity of the Jazz & Rib Fest, it is possible. It will probably come back as a Smooth AC and satellite just like how it left.

As far as a Latino-formatted station, that is possible, and hopefully with that it'd cause 103.1 to go back to Urban.

I predict that WCRS will continue its broadcasting and streaming of "Yesterday's Top Secrets" throughout the year, Used Kids Records will continue its underwriting support of the show for the fourth consecutive year, listings of "Secrets" will continue to be regularly published in the Dispatch in the "Today's Highlights" block of its Life & Arts section, and I predict that some of the show's new featured artist pairings for 2012 will be Neil Young and Nirvana, Petula Clark and the Pretenders, Jan and Dean and Devo, Spanky and our Gang and Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Eddie Cochran and Elvis Costello.

Smooth Jazz would make sense for 103.9 ... Since NABCO is all about satellite formats on their freqs (besides The Blitz).

They could plug in the BA format 24/7 and let it run. If I am not mistaken WJZA/WJZK was BA's format before Saga blew it up for "Rewind"

I realized that after I posted that comment. Too bad wiki never included those calls when doing the story on that station.

I hate to say it but I doubt anything will change. With WNKO focusing on Newark I don't see them changing anytime soon unless they sell. Wilks will continue to use 107.1 as a flanker to WHOK. And 103.9's Classic hits will serve as a flanker to the Blitz so they can keep the Steelers broadcasts.

Or the worse case scenario. Move WNCI to either 105.7 or 106.7 and put WTVN on 97.9. That would send shockwaves to the Columbus radio landscape.

So, you don't see WTVN simulcasting on either 105.7 or 106.7 in 2012?
Those two frequencies appear be the best bet at this time.
