Anyone recall WCOM TV 68 out of Mansfield? I think Tom Burris (former channel 6) was either an owner or GM. I remember picking it up as clear as the local stations on the far west side of Columbus and one day it was just...poofed. Never knew the story but I still hum the jingle now and then.

Don't know about ownership, but he was the station voice.

You and me and COM TV
That's where the good times begin.
Starting now and from here on in
68 is COM TV.

They had the tallest tower in Ohio. It was 1576' and it was on high ground just south of Butler. It had strobe lights and could easily be seen from I 71. The tower was taken down a few years after the station went dark and it was sold to a religious broadcaster in South Carolina to be used for two 800' towers.

With the tall tower and high elevation, high power, and a directional antenna pointing toward Columbus, they put a good enough signal into the metro area to get excellent reception with just a little loop antenna. Unfortunately, they weren't able to get carriage on the local CATV systems, which ultimately led to their demise.
