COMCAST BUYS MORE SYSTEMS in NJ

Yesterday, Comcast Cable TV bought Patriot Cable TV and Media Group in Northern and Central New Jersey. Patriot Cable serves southern Morris County, northern Somerset County, most of Hunderton County, and parts of Mercer County. Some of the areas included are Clinton, Princeton, Somerset, Mendham, and Chester. The article was on NJ.com yesterday and is in today's Newark Star Ledger. I'm guessing all the systems will be turned into Comcast and have similar channel lineups, services, and prices, as the other Comcast systems in New Jersey. I'm surprized Cablevision didn't try to buy Patriot, or maybe Comcast just had the highest offer. I don't know if Verizon Fios TV serves the area as an alternative to Comcast.

Those Patriot systems (except Princeton, perhaps) were always sort of ugly stepchild cable systems. Back in the RCN days, the Morris/Somerset system was a real dog. They could have gone to either Cablevision or Comcast...fits either company (Cablevision a bit better IMHO with their big Randolph head-end). It's a good thing either way. Given Cablevision's current situation, however, I don't think they are in aquisition mode at this time.
