Comcast Changes Bristol/Plainville CT Effective April 2012

Comcast will be making major changes in Bristol/Plainville Connecticut in April 2012.

As of April 3, 2012 you will need a Digital Cable Box or Cable Card for all Basic Channels unless you have a QAM Tuner TV. You will still be able to get all Basic Channels without a box if you have a QAM Tuner TV.

Also new Channels being added on April 10th:

230 WGBY-HD
378 WGBY Kids
379 WGBY World
380 WGBY Create

Also Disney Channel HD will move from Channel 230 to Channel 194. And National Jewish TV (NJT) which airs Sundays 1-4 on Channel 17 will no longer be offered.

Seems kind of silly to me that they're adding WGBY Create. Won't the programming be exactly the same as CPTV Create on Channel 292?

They're adding these 3 sub channels from WGBY Spingfield, Mass but still won't add WSAH Bridgeport, CT. :-(

Didn't that change already go into effect about 2 years ago? I remember my uncle had to get a cable box and 2 digital adapters. They were not charging people for the equipment because they were basically forced into getting the boxes and adapters.

Nope! The analog lineup still shows here in New Britain on Comcast (3 on 3, 30 on 4, 61 on 6, etc.) Reading the same letter, something stands out like a sore thumb in the fine print:

QAM tuner TVs will continue to receive Limited Basic channels 3-13, 16-19, 22, 70, 95-96, 98 & 99 without a digital device.

I never tune the analog band on either digital TV now anyways. HD isn't possible on the analog tier, so why bother? It's strange that my mother can tune the locals directly for HD (i.e. simply pressing 3-0-ENTER and WVIT-TV comes in), while my TV is different, since it's from 2006. It assigns the QAM stations randomly. To get WVIT-TV in HD, I have to enter 4-4-ENTER and then channel up once. 44-1 on my QAM tuner is WTNH-TV. WVIT-TV ends up on QAM 44-2. Weird, huh?
