Comcast charges fee for disconnect of service

I recently made the switch from cable to satellite. In doing so, Comcast (NJ) is charging me a $15 fee for the disconnect of my TV service (I'm keeping the internet connection). To me this is ridiculous, especially considering that I am remaining a customer as an internet subscriber. Is it legal for Comcast to charge this fee? From the way the service rep was talking it sounded like they were charging the fee as a deterrent to keep me away from disconnecting. A few years ago I disconnected service with Cablevision and there were no fees.
 
Thats the beauty of monopoly, you can charge whatever you like, the public be damned!

This was probably a change of service fee instead of a disconnect fee. You did not have your service disconnected. Instead, a Comcast technician had to come out to your house and install a trap (to cut out the video signals) on your line. Most, likely that in itself cost Comcast more than $15, so don't get too upset.
 
I had my Cable from Comcast disconnected in January of this year. No fee was charged. But then again they didn't do anything. I had to bring the box and remote to the company.

I thought it was odd when I said I am getting rid of the service, the guy just said "OK, what day would you like it disconnected." I thought he'd try to offer me a discount to keep it.

Get DSL then and tell them to goto hell
