Ok Thats what I thought.Thats not the woman said on the horn.Of course what does consumer sevice know. And the stupid notice is wrong by not saying the locals are not part of the change yet.I did order 2 boxes for the vcrs for channels above the basic channels.Hahaha.LOL .As I was going to dial Comcast about this change over.and then.AT & T called. They were promoting their tv package and they gave me a quote on the family package for $149 dollars complete after the plan runs out.but the guy got a deal for $103 for 6 months.after 6 months it will go to $117 dollars a month.get the whole 9 yards including 3 boxes with dvr's which is like 12 vcr's with each can record 4 programs at once.I put this package on hold until I reserch this out.Since I'm on the internet more then watching tv.

I received the 2 little boxes from Comcast today.wow .these are small.they are about a size of a cigerette pack.I will hook them up before the switch.

Last night around 2am.I decided to hook up those mini boxes.I tried the automated service but got nowhere.then I was transfered to a live tech.It took about 15 minutes to get both fired up.My only grip about these little boxes is they dont have a composite output jacks in the back of it.So I lose the stereo sound. But they work great for just watching tv.I not going to fork out $8 plus dollars a month for the full size box for all the features.I will give them a try in august to see what Comcast is going to pull their crap on what channels are going to digital. If I dont like it.I will go to the AT&T route.which I have a standing work order on the side to get the service hooked up in september

Again I contacted Comcast today to see what they are up to,The Comcast person said you need the box for all the channels including the local channels"The first 24" according to her.Total digital migration.I think this is Bullsheet.so in the long run .AT&T might have a new Uverse customer .I probably would of not cared if the expanded basic was the only going to the digital migration.

ATT needs a box too,.

ANALOG IS DEAD!

Yes I know ,But you get a dvr that records 4 programs at once.Anyway The miniboxes do pass stereo sound through the rf ch3 and 4.I did not know this .until I did some homework over the weekend.

Too much bandwith is wasted on the analog signals. They've been broadcasting all channels from 2-99 in both analog and digital for a long while anyway. Down here in the Philly area, Xfinity changed over. They cut out all analog except broadcast TV, and 3 cable channels. After all the wasted bandwith was taken back, they launched many many HD channels up in the 800s which brings them up closer to FiOS and DirecTv in the number of HD channels they offer. They can also increse internet speeds with more bandwidth.

I dont care about the cable networks going digital. They could of left the local channels alone.
They did leave the locals analog, at least here in surburban Philly. If you plug in the coax in the back of an analog cable ready TV with Xfinity, you should still be able to get your local broadcast channels with an analog feed. (only 1 PBS down here in Philly, WHYY on analog. PBS did a deal with Comcast. If only 1 PBS station on analog, all PBS stations plus all PBS sub-channels on digital cable).

If you plug that little digital to analog converter in, you'll get better picture quality from the digital signal plus you'll get all the missing old analog cable channels plus some up in the 100s too.

i think its a rip off,up here in mass im paying 75 bucks a month for just internet really plus a few analog channels, what a rip my bill was 114 but i took out the boxes i cant believe how things have gotten so bad with comcrap!!

I will order 5 more miniconvertors in the next couple of days.According to the Comcast reps that I talk to.They said all the channels will go digital later this month.Of course what does a rep know.If I find out they are keeping the locals analog .I will just return the other boxes to the Comcast branch.I would like to get my hands on those unlisted local comcast tech office tele numbers and get the truth out of this.

I just talk to an Comcast agent today.According to her.the lower 24 plus local tv analog channels will stay analog for now.I will see on the 18th what will happen. If shes wrong .I will make a run to the Comcast branch and pickup the extra boxes and drop to basic only.

Update .I just got a letter from Comcast today. That on sep t20 That will Digitize about a bakers dozen of upper channels.like E Entertainment,TNT,Versus,AMC .Lifetime and so on.On Oct.4th they add over 20HD channels to the lineup in the 1000 channel band. Will useless to me.great for the HD tv owner.

Update .As of today {Oct 20,2011} Comcast pulled the plug on the analog upper teir on their system. The locals are still broadcasting in analog for now.Since I dont watch much above the locals anyway.I thinking about dropping the extented basic.I get more TV watching out of the computer then the cable tv.I found a couple of great sites where you can watch and download tv shows with good quility to boot.

Before you pull the plug be certain that you will still be able to watch tv on the Internet. Depending, you might be better off calling their retention dept. and seeing what kind of a deal you can get.

You talking about Comcast or my ISP retention dept .I will keep the basic, basic service on Comcast for now until they start dropping the analog locals to digital. When that happens I will drop them altogether.Probably get AT&T uverse or one of those dish providers.

I'm not terribly impressed with any of them. But no point going to Comcast retention dept. if you are going to keep it all separate anyway.
