Comcast Harrisburg - Why no FSN??

I know this is RADIO-info and not TV info, but this seems to be the best place to ask.

On 2/1/05, Comcast Harrisburg dropped FSN Pittsburgh from its lineup and it has never been brought back, despite my monthly pleadings and I'm sure those of others. A lot of Pittsburgh fans in the area, simply switched to the satellite. Now, that Verizon FiOS has recently added FSN to their channel lineup, I know of many others who will make the switch.

The frustration mounts when I realize that with few exceptions (Dillsburg, Lebanon and maybe a couple of others), most all surrounding cable outlets; Blue Ridge, Atlantic, even Comcast themselves!, DO carry FSN Pgh!!

The question is: WHY doesn't Comcast Harrisburg return FSN to its lineup? My theory is that whoever the local Hbg manager is, simply has NO interest in carrying the channel, no matter what. Every single time (20+ times) I ask a Comcast rep who this person is and how I can speak to this individual, after 4 and a half years, no one will pass that info on!!! There is certainly a market for the channel here. And I for one, when Verizon IS available, will switch immediately and let Comcast know that we switched for one reason. No FSN on Comcast and the continued refusal to carry it.

Does anyone else on the board have better info on the reasons why Hbg Comcast refuses to carry FSN?? Sorry to vent but I've tried all the other avenues and have gotten NOWHERE!! I need to know so I can rest peacefully tonight.

Thanks in advance.

Perhaps the only way for you to get any sleep at night is to switch to DIRECT TV, DISH or FiOS. COMCAST has been dropping channels alot recently and they do it with NO notice to customers. I've been paying MORE for LESS. With all the other choices out there.....I'm confused as to why they seem to be shooting themselves in the foot. When I call them I get this song and dance about creating more bandwidth.

I was frantically Dish shopping myself, then I saw that WHP21 is carrying the rest of the preseason games that are on FSN. Dunno if anyone reads RI from there, but kudos kudos and more kudos!

It's a matter of zipcodes. Certain zipcodes are allowed to carry certain sports channels. It is not Comcast's decision. It comes from Major League Baseball.

I thought we were talking about the STEELERS....but you're right about the MLB thing. Peter Angelos wants to cram the ORIOLES down our throats...so he uses his leverage as an owner to do so. The Pirates aren't doing so great this year but I guess they do have fans out there. I did hear that COMCAST did win a court case so they wouldn't be forced to carry Angelos' MASN network on Harrisburg systems. Anybody have any additional info on that?

I get MASN on in York and even to a certain extent Lancaster.

Harrisburg has no natural geographic connection to Baltimore. Definitely Philly and Pittsburgh territory.

I would make the switch to DirecTV or Dish network and cast the cable company away.

I just recently moved to Lancaster from Pittsburgh, and have also had DirecTV for the past 6 years. When I found out I could get FSN Pittsburgh on DirecTV out here, I was elated because I can watch my beloved Penguins this winter. Right now, I guess the only thing they're showing that I don't have an interest in is Pirates baseball. Unfortunately FSN Pittsburgh also dropped SportsBeat with Stan Savran. During the football season, after the games, I'm sure we'll be able to see some post game news, but not sure who would be hosting that. I'm sure there will be blackouts whenever the Penguins and the Flyers, and maybe even the Capitals and Penguins play. When that happens, I'll just listen to Mike Lange and Phil Bourke on iheartradio.

I had no idea Commiecast was not carrying FSN out here, but actually surprised it was an option at all in this area apparently in the past due to the fact its 250 miles from Lancaster to da burgh.

nhl.com provides FREE streaming of all radio broadcasts of NHL games. Something that MLB and the NFL charges a fee for. wxdx.com also streams their signal, including the Pens games. Believe me, listening to Lange and "The Ol' Two-niner" gets me thru many a night when I can't see the Pens on TV.

Comcast DOES have FSN available in the Elizabethtown market, the Carlisle market, the Millersburg market, among others, which they serve. But NOT the Harrisburg market, which includes most of the West Shore (Enola, Marysville, Camp Hill, Lemoyne, Mechanicsburg) communities. So the problem specifically lies with whomever makes the decision to carry the channel lineup for the Harrisburg market. And this person/these people are nearly impossible to contact.

Comcast was running some Phillies "overspill" on CNP...which was once CN8. This channel has disapeared without notice or fanfare from ALL Comcast systems. It was sort of a regional news channel. Anybody hear what happened?

It's now called The Comcast Network. They have been carrying Canadian football and some Aussie rugby and one of my favorites, some Aussie rules football. And some Art Fennell reports. They do show Phillies replays sometimes, too.

That's right. I checked my current line up on line. Comcast Network is now digital only.....which I refuse to subscibe to. I'll go with DISH or DIRECT before I do that. Once again...no notice given...and I'm sure a rate hike is on the way.

Ok, to really post an off topic question about TV on radio-info.....I live in Lancaster. I have DirecTV here with the sports package. I cannot find the "flagship" Phillies games. I thought they'd be available on the Comcast channel all the time, every game. Same with the Nationals on whatever the Baltimore-Washington channel is called. I get only the Lancaster-Harrisburg local channels on DirecTV in my area and not the Baltimore or Philly stations. Should I be trying to find an OTA antenna to get PHL-17 for the Phillies games?

Ahhh, Mike Lange and the "Old Two Niner".....miss them already. "Lord Stanley, Lord Stanley, pass me the brandy"

Harrisburg is designated a Ravens market, even though it is a Steelers town. Here is a breakdown for you.

Thanks for the link. It's a Ravens designated market, but I find it humorous that I started watching the Steelers pre-season game on NFL Network and right at game time it switched to the obnoxious one - Joe Theismann. Out of desperation I was getting ready to turn on the Steelers live stream from WDVE, but lo and behold....the Steelers pre-season game was on Channel 21 - and they were using the KDKA crew, Bob Pompeani and Edmund Nelson. I almost felt like I was back in Pittsburgh. I'm curious if CBS 21 in Harrisburg will pre-empt programming for Ravens pre-season games.
