Comcast HD channels

Just wondering if Comcast Atlanta will be adding more HD channels in the near future? Anyone know?

If you call them they of course tell you "yes, we're planning on adding more very soon", but so far nothing.

I heard that once the February Digitial switchover, Comcast can stop carrying all the Analog feeds, and would free up bandwidth for more HD channels, but not sure if that's true. I also read this is why Directv/DISH are marketing hard to get more customers locked in since they know cable will soon be able to add a lot more HD channels.

BTW I miss Directv, and I'm considering going back, but just was curious about the Atlanta HD lineup.
Also, if I switch back to Directv (with Tivo/DVR), do I have to have a landline phone?

Yes, you do need one, at least during the installation process. You are right that it is mainly used for the PPV movies, but it is also used for various maintenance tasks, such as checking for software revisions/updates. Also, if you leave the unit disconnected from the phone line for a very long time, you will get a huge buildup of "mail" messages from the unit itself warning you that it hasn't been able to make a call. After a year or so, this will actually slow the overall operation of the DirectTivo down quite a bit (as I found out the hard way!)
 
Comcast Atlanta does have plans to shut off analog cable sometime this year.

When this does happen...there will be a backlash from various people. This will range from older people who want the ability to tune channels directly from their TV sets to people who were told their TV's would be OK after the OTA DTV transition...only to find out they have to have a converter box (for cable) after all.

Comcast should worry about other things first...like not messing up peoples yards and not drilling through drainage pipes to install cable.
 
Actually Comcast has agreed to carry analog cable for 3 years, however, at the end of those three years, either your TV must be digital or you must get one of Comcast's digital boxes.
