Comcast New Jersey Changes

Comcast Cable has droped WCAU NBC 10 Philadelphia from its basic cable lineup on Comcast of Ocean County (Toms River Area), Comcast of Central New Jersey in Middlesex County (East Brunswick Area) and Comcast of Warren County (Hackettstown, Washington Areas). Comcast still carries the station on channel 253 on its digital cable lineup. Why did they drop the station from channel 10 on basic cable and replace it with nothing? Cablevision still carries NBC 10 on its Monmouth and Ocean County systems (Freehold, Brick, Belmar, Seaside, ect.) Ocean County which is closer to Philadelphia than New York (even if it is in NY DMA) provide much better weather coverage to the area and all of Ocean County can be seen on weather radar and also seem to do a good job covering big news stories. Toms River, LBI, ect. temps are seen on all Philadelphia weather reports on CBS 3, ABC 6, and NBC 10. NY stations don't really even fit Ocen County on their maps. I would think most Ocean County cable viewers are very upset about this move and would rather have NBC 4 NY droped from the lineup before NBC 10 Philadelphia if they had to choose, but since they live at the shore in Ocean County they should not have to choose. Comcast should carry both stations and in southern Ocean County (Tuckerton, Manahawkin, LBI) NBC 40 Atlantic City should be carried.

Broadcast channels do not charge to be carried on cable systems,no money issue at all.NBC 10 is now in Digital and HD while broadcasting and it is now a far more superior picture on Digital for $1.00 a month more(along with other bonus channels as well).Do these people know that 3 and 6 are still being carried?

Go read up on "retransmission consent". Broadcast stations can indeed charge to be carried on cable system. Historically cable system have balked at that, so deals have been made to get clearance for new cable channels in exchange for getting the broadcast station for free. That's how ESPN2, fX, whatever the name of the NBC talk channel that folded was, TV Food Network and probably more than I'm forgetting right now were launched.

You sure about that? Digital basic most places is another $10 or so.

Comcast offers a channel drop special which is $1.00 A MONTH more.It was also offered when the game show network was dropped. Most customers pick up the $1 special and end up purchasing more content because the picture and the content is more superior.I verified with the local office that there is no fee charged on network broadcast channels. And they still carry 2 other Philly channels...what are they losing??? help me out with this? is 10 their favorite channel? How many shows have we liked that were cancelled.Get over it...move on.............Call Toms River Comcast office 732-286-2971 all of this will be verified

An article posted in another thread cited a Comcast spokesman saying there were no immediate plans to remove the other Philadelphia stations from the analog service. Why move one and not the others?
