With its acquisition of Adelphia's cable system in Vermont only a few months old, Comcast is raising cable rates an average of 3 percent beginning Feb. 1 for its 105,000 customers.
For a Comcast customer with a standard cable package of approximately 70 channels will see the monthly bill go up from $51.90 to $54.25, company spokesman Marc Goodman said Friday.
The rate for Comcast's high-speed Internet service remains unchanged at $42.95 a month.
Goodman said Vermont is the only New England state where Comcast is raising its rates.
Comcast officials previously had said no rate increase was tied to the Adelphia takeover, which was completed in July. However, Goodman said the company has improved programming, including more University of Vermont sporting events, added more high-definition channels and other channels, including the Comcast network.
