Comcast Sportsnet-Philadelphia. . .

If CSN-Phila. is not available to DISH Network and DIrectv customers on a full-time basis. . .than why am i watching the CSN-Phila. feed with Marc Zumoff on play-by-play on the Indiana Pacers vs. Philadelphia 76ers game on my Directv receiver at home here in Lebanon, N.H.? on channel 753 (NBA-3) part of NBA League pass? any info can help. . .thanx!

--D.C.--

I believe you can get it on NBA League Pass, but only out of market (i.e., I live in Philadelphia and I cannot watch the 76ers games on League Pass).

The reason CSN Philly is not available via satellite is because "Comcast distributes the signal only by land line", according to Wikipedia. Because of this, the network's availability as part of MLB and NBA packages was feeble at best. But the article goes on to say: "Beginning in 2007, the cable version of MLB Extra Innings has been able to use the CSN Philadelphia feed for some games."

so comcast, the (selective word) that they are. . .uses the technicality to keep their signal off of DISH and Directv full-time 24/7, BUT they want to be included when it comes to producing and showing the games with their signal? and people say they aren't a monopoly?. . .when i moved up here a year ago to Lebanon, N.H. i subscribed to the now defunct Adelphia. . .well low and behold, Comcast comes along to sweep up the mess. . .i had them out to my apt. SEVEN time to fix the cable and internet. . .finally cut them off completely and got Directv. . .what i don't understand is why comcast (now with competition from Verizon) does not make their signal available to satellite customers especially in the Philadelphia DMA.

I live and breath Flyers hockey but I’ll be damned if I pay Comcrap one penny of my hard earned money. When I lived in MD I got Center Ice but had to watch the Flyers via the visitors feed rather than the Flyers feed. So here I am in PA and I have DirecTV and get the center ice package and I am blacked out for ALL Flyers! Though I can’t watch the Flyers I can at least watch the rest of the league and see Flyers highlights on the NHL network! I listen to the games via the web and pretend I am in the old days of AM radio.
Now with FiOS just becoming available to me I am planning to switch. FiOS carries Comcrap’s sports in Phila so I will get my Flyers. Unfortunately for the short term (short term only I hope) I’ll loose Center Ice and the NHL Network. Hopefully in the near future VZ gets these on FiOS TV.

There is a loophole in the law. CSN Philly doesn't have to be made avaliable to the satellite companies because their signal is not uplinked via satellite to the cable companies. They used the old Prism's distribution which I believe was via microwave towers to the cable headends. They probably use Comcast's fiber loop around the city now. And, FIOS does have CSN Philly in SD and HD too. Every other CSN is on my DirecTv.
