Comcast totally sucks!

You won't believe this. The other day, I had this technician come out to look at this problem with pixelation on certain channels. He said the line going to the house might need replacing, but refused to look at it because there's a bush full of bees in the way. He said he would speak to his supervisor about it, and that they would have to do it another day. I somehow didn't think they were going to, but apparently, he did. Because there was someone out on the pole today, trying to fix the problem. But now, the problem is 1000 times worse! I'm getting more pixelation than ever, very poor reception on analog channels, and they can't come out again until Thursday. And they probably won't be able to fix it then. So…

NOW WHAT?

Vote with your wallet! Opt for one of the Satellite tv services and drop Comcast like a lead balloon! I did it ages ago and I'm so happy I did. I get more channels, it costs less and while it may go out on the rare occasion of a very heavy rainstorm it still goes out less than the crummy cable did!

Remember folks, it's Com-crapstik!

That actually wouldn't be a bad idea. Verizon FiOS is available in my area and I think a few of my neighbors have it. From what I understand, the quality is supposed to be stunning. Do you know anything about FiOS?

We're supposed to get AT&T's U-Verse service in the near future here in New Britain, CT. Installing a dish won't be an option on my house. my grandmother owns it and she's already said no.

U-verse is suppose to be similar Verizon's FIOS system. While I've heard great things about FIOS I don't hear the same sort of reception for AT&T. I think it partly has something to do about the fact they pull all the copper when you switch, leaving you stuck if you want to go back to plain old telephone service. I would assume they are both similar in function. That may be an option as well, especially if you have circumstances preventing the installation of a dish. I actually have two, one for DirecTV and the other is for free-to-air satellite.

Well, the tech came out yesterday, and apparently, they did replace the line, but the connector they put on the end of it at the side of the house was bad. He replaced it, and now everything works great. But the intermittent pixelation problem I was having before has not been fixed. So, I'm still wondering if I should switch to FiOS. Unlike Comcast, most of the stuff I've heard about FiOS is pretty good, and that the quality is better. Has anyone here experienced this?

So, I was really looking forward to U-Verse coming to my area. Did I read correctly that it's not as good as Verizon's FIOS?

So, it's better the devil I know with Comcast then I guess. I absolutely do not want a dish. I've heard nothing but bad things about Dish Network. Not sure about DirectTV though.

Directv is far superior to Dish Network. I have had them almost 4 years with no complaints.

The pixelation may not be Comcast's fault. It could be at the broadcaster end.

The problem could also be at the Comcast headend and not necessarily your home. Check with some of your neighbors and see if they are having the same problem. A few years ago my father was having problems with a snowy picture. He checked with some neighbors and it turned out the problem was widespread but nobody else had bothered to call Comcast to report the problem. They ended up replacing an amplifier out in the street and that fixed the problem for all.

We actually had this pixelation problem quite some time ago, only it was more severe. And we've had several other problems since then. I have tried checking with the neighbors, but apparently, I don't think very many people, if any, in my neighborhood still have Comcast. RCN has been in town for about 7 years now, and a lot of people switched over to them. We had them for a little bit, but it wasn't that great. And now, I think people are switching to FiOS. So I'm wondering if that's why Comcast is really bad in my area, and some of the techs practically don't care.

I see pixelization on analog channels (I don't have digital) on comcrap all the time, the problem is at the head end with the way the sources are being fed into the system, my guess is this is how they are picking them up from the birds.

Thank you for the article and the link to the anti-Comcast website! I deal with them here in New Britain, CT. I recently dropped their internet service (I have AT&T/Yahoo! at present). If I can manage a bit more in the way of digital reception, I'll dump the cable part too! I've paid them in full every month since 1998 for what? No more!

I've had Directv since 1996, and their product is excellent. Their customer service has improved too, from atrocious to usually adequate.

We just had a tech here again, and he looked at pretty much all the cables, both in and outside of the house. He actually did find a wire that was loose, because we did have some work done in that room a few months ago. He tightened them, and got everything working. He says there's no reason why it should be doing it. If it still is, then it must be something in the satellite feed, and that it happens sometimes. Well, the tiling has NOT been fixed. Now I REALLY think I should switch to FiOS.

Also just dropped cable, only thing I miss is the additional showing of the simpsons on fox 5 nyc at 7pm, I'm down to only 2 or 3 fox stations now.

WTIC & WGGB DT2 and sometime fox 25 analog when conditions are good.

(Not to mention some of the ones on TVUnetworks and ANTS-tv)
