Comcastic TV Commercial

Comcast has a clever new ad running with Loretta Swit and a 70's era contestant playing the $20,000 Pyramid. The voices have been dubbed over to slam satellite dishes and to promote cable TV in the final game round. Very well done.

My question is: Why are they running this ad on national TV? I live in Las Vegas which is a Cox market...so they have no reason to run it locally in Las Vegas. And I'm noticing it on the major networks during prime time programming. Doesn't this cost Comcast an extra boatload of money to advertise nationally? Why would they do this when their service is not available nationally?

it can get very expensive

I'm not sure but my guess is to build the "comcast" brand and to spread brand awareness.
______________

Just because it's in a network show, doesn't mean it's a network commercial. In order to do away with between-program station breaks (when people reach for their remotes), local avails are put inside of network shows.

Comcast is the already the largest cable TV provider in the United States. Why do they feel the need to advertise nationally? I saw one of their ads run during a recent WB show. It said "(name of show) on the WB is brought to you by Comcast." In other words, it was WB running the ad nationally, not my WB affiliate locally. To clarify, New Britain and Hartford, CT are served by Comcast. However, WTXX-TV channel 20 of Waterbury/Hartford was simply passing the ad through as part of WB's East Coast feed.

Speaking of national exposure, Comcast is playing a large part in the OLN (Outdoor Life Network) upgrade. I'm not certain if they're the ones who helped get the NHL on the channel to begin with.

I'm pretty sure that it was a national ad. But if it was aired on a local level, why Las Vegas? Comcast doesn't have anything here. It's all Cox.

Has anyone in another non-Comcast market seen the ad run?

I noticed it running pretty heavily on NYC TV last weekend. There's a little Comcast in New Jersey, but that market is dominated by Cablevision and TWC.
______________

Theres not a comcast outlet with 60 miles of here, that would be Port Charlotte, FL , but Bright House has been saddled with these ads for about a week...

and expect OLN to undergo a name change this spring.

Given Comcast Sports reach around the country, I would think theyll start showing some regional programming in other markets.

I thought Sarasota, Wauchoula, Bartow and Mulberry are Comcast markets -- and they're closer to Tampa Bay than Port Charlotte.

I have seen it during both local and network programming, so I just assumed it was a local insert. Comcast is one of the companies to serve Indianapolis, which is where I get my network programming.

It may be one which is being run nationally and locally? I saw it last night while watching CSI. It was the first spot of the break which is why at least in this case I beleive it was a CBS network spot (even though I live in Southern NH which is predominately Comcast) and not a local WBZ-TV spot.

I agree it is a clever commercial.

Comcast Is Supposed To Take Over A Bunch Of Adelphia's Markets After

The First Of The Year ... The Rest Of Adelphia Is Supposed To Go Time Warner.

Perhaps Comcast Is Taking Over Enough Markets That It Is Cost Efficient To Run

National Ads.

My error about Sarasota. Nor was I aware of the Phosphate belt having access to the 'cast.

In any event, anyone that gives Bright House some competition can't be all bad.

Not to get totally off topic but what is so bad about Bright House?

I have seen them down at my parents house (they live in the Tampa Bay area) and they don't seem so bad.

>>>>>>I live in Indianapolis too, but I prefer to watch network programing live off the bird (since our time is still messed up) and WABC & WNBC have been running the commercials. They must be national ads. (Side Note: I can't wait until October 30, and most of Indiana will always be on EST/EDT with the rest of the East Coast. No more tape delay!)

Actually, they could be local spots, as the evil empire, I mean Comcast, has systems in New Jersey. Its just another annoying cable TV ad, although less worse than the annoying guy from Long Island screaming why cable is so wonderful. I won't buy your product, since a.) its expensive garbage, b.) you have annoying adverts!
______________

And Comcast will be leaving the DFW/North Texas market soon, selling off all of those assets to Time Warner.

National TV Spots cover more of the Nation for less

One good National campaign is a lot cheaper & more effective than buying hundreds of individual markets. And how do you exclude any town, even Las Vegas from seeing a national commercial?. We ALWAYS see commercials for companies, products, and services not available in our area, at least for now. Comcast is as 'National' a company as you'll ever find, and those ad's are brilliant!

Not only have I seen the Comcra... er, Comcastic spot in Tulsa, I've seen it on a cable network on my DirecTV system! Unlike most of you, I think that it is a very cheap looking spot, compared to others I've seen using "repurposed" video/film. The video looks like 5th generation VHS, for cryin' out loud! I guess it's supposed to represent Comcra... er, Comcast's usual PQ. Comcra... er, Comcast's previous series of anti-satellite ads looked much better, though they were as silly in concept as the spot in question is.

BTW, there has always been local advertising availabilities inside of network shows. It's part of the agreement between the networks and their affiliates. Did you know that when the host on Today says, "This is Today on NBC" that it is an audio cue for the local master control ops that a local break is coming up? This has been a Today show tradition from day 1, way before automated commercial insertion.
______________

Bright House is GREAT in the Tampa Bay area but HORRIBLE in the Orlando area. Bright House of Central Florida doesn't provide us with Fox Sports Net Florida only Sun Sports so this creates a problem for people who subscribe to NHL Center Ice or MLB Extra Innings because anything that is shown on FSN Florida like the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, or Florida Marlins is blacked out and Sun Sports and FSN are supposed to be sister networks. We don't have as many digital channels as Tampa does and they seem to charge more than Tampa does for some reason.
