Comcast's Next Big Battle May Be in Its Backyard

I will believe it when I see it FINALLY HAPPENS. As a DTV subscriber, I have been fighting this battle for almost 14 years with Comcast. I hear they want a record monthly rate per subscriber from DTV Philadelphia SMSA subscribers to turn CSN-Philly over to satellite. It would be nice before the 2011 MLB season starts, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

What I think hopefully may be to DirecTv and Dish's advantage is that Comcast already negotiated with Verizon. FiOS customers get CSN-Philly (SD & HD) and TCN-Philly (SD only). If Comcast is trying to unfairly charge the DBS companies, hopefully arbitration will make Comcast have a fair price like whatever Verizon is charged.

I agree. Another thing is that Fios is now advertising that it is available in Philly itself. When Fios started here, it was just in the suburbs. With Fios competition already offering CSN in Philly itself, there is less Comcast monopoly existant and it might be limited to just outlying areas (e.g. some areas in South Jersey like Atlantic County and areas in Burlington County such as Burlington Twp still may not have Fios). If the monopoly areas which Comcast benefited from now cover a lot less territory that it's less substantial, it would be to Comcast's benefit at this point to switch gears, make the channel available to the sat companies and to collect the subscription revenue from DirecTV and Dish customers. By doing so, it will expand CSN's HH reach, boosting its advertising revenue potential as well.

but can you watch the sixers-flyers on fios without a blackout from comcast ??

Yes, live feed, no blackout.

Yes. All of CSN-Philly live in SD and HD. All of TCN-Philly in SD only on Ch. 99. Includes all Phillies, Flyers, and Sixers games.
