Comedy 1200

Good stunt. When did it commence? Automation isn't quite smooth; a Talk 1200 ID broke in, promising NECN weather, then it cut back to the stunt.

I just wish the loop of quotes was a lot longer. You hear everything in about five minutes.

What do you think this is a prelude to?

i'm a bit lost here i thought rush and coast don't start until august 20 or 21, whats going to happen next week no rush at all in Boston??

Given the recent ratings of both WXKS-AM and WRKO, would anyone other than maybe the two guys posting nasty comments under twenty handles at Boston.com notice?

It actually makes sense. If the rumors are true about 1510 picking up NBC Sports' new radio network, that would mean 1200 would be the FIFTH station running sports in town if they were to go with FSR. The whole idea is to automate the frequency and run it on the cheap, so really, what do they have to lose? If it flops in six months, they can try something else.

Actually, comedy could prove to be a good format. Nobody else here is doing it,
that's for sure! Two problems with that, however:
1 - finding material that is air-appropriate in terms of language/subject matter
2 - finding enough material at all. Most comedy pieces tend to be fairly short.
You will eat material very quickly. Once you have heard the joke, after that,
it is not so funny, if, indeed, it ever was to begin with. Certain hack local
talk show hosts have not yet learned this ;)

Actually, just last week the former morning drive host on Talk 1200 learned this very fact... the hard way ;D

A stunt and whether it lasts 3 days or 10 days, I don't know. I guess fans of Rush & C2C can get those shows on stations in Manch, Worc, and Prov till RKO picks them up...also can find Hannity, Levin etc elsewhere. Sure looks like all comedy, etc.
Stations like Funny 850 Norfolk VA and one out in LA (or at least they run a show called all comedy radio)
have stand up routines, usually pretty clean (like Laff USA on XM) from recent and sometimes older
comedy albums, specials, etc. And in some cases they comics keep shouting and the audience laughs
uproariously--OK, I guess we get it.

I wouldn't expect controversial comedy--maybe in some cases words will be bleeped out, and I doubt
they would run stuff like Shirley Q. Liquor, a white man who dresses in drag and imitates an old black
woman. How you durrin'! Nope, doubt that would make it, but Jerry Seinfeld, Dane Cook (when he isn't
joking about the Colorado massacre), George Lopez, etc.

Gaffe1200's iHeartRadio page informs us that "Boston's Political Blunders Station...recently played The Glenn Beck Show, The Rush Limbaugh Show and The Jeff Katz Show." Such candor is unusual, especially for Clear Channel.

This new comedy service has quite a bit of material, and they constantly add new stand up bits to their service. If they're careful about rotating bits and comedians the same way radio stations try to separate songs and artists, it should be a good listen for people who like comedians. It will be interesting to see if they can drum up enough listeners to actually sell time on the station, but considering the talk & sports landscape in the market, it's worth a shot...

But DEFINITELY a stunt--not, as some people here seem to think--THE new format. It's a five-minute (more or less) loop, for goodness sake! I think it's a sure bet that the REAL format will be some flavor of two-way talk. My guess is nearly all conservative but with Premiere's leftie, Randi Rhodes, in some daypart (most likely late night) just so that Clear Channel can say it isn't a pure conservative format.
