Comedy 1200

Once you have heard the joke, after that,
it is not so funny, if, indeed, it ever was to begin with. Certain hack local
talk show hosts have not yet learned this ;)

Actually, just last week the former morning drive host on Talk 1200 learned this very fact... the hard way ;D

I could not have said it better myself. I have been enjoying the comments on the Bring Back Jeff Katz FB page. His listeners are so clueless. They still do understand that radio is a business and when your format doesn't attract listeners even after after 2.5 years, it is time to try something else. I like a little comedy now and then. I listen to the Sirius comedy channels and I enjoyed the comedy segments that Santos was playing in the morning. It is cost effective, different and all they have to do is get a good enough rating that the CC Boston Sales department can add to the Kiss 108 and Jamin numbers to make a but more attractive to a client and they could be fine. The question is with this format will they be able to sell local infomercial time on the weekends.

I once asked the sales manager at a top 50 market cluster how he sold two underperforming AM stations with 24/7 satellite programming. He said, "Two words: added value."

I kinda feel like that's the future for the CC Boston AM's... "Along with your Kiss 108 buy, you get hourly spots on the AM's thrown in!"

Exactly. When a media buyer is buying a station like Kiss or JAMMIN that both have a high cost per point if 1200 and 1430 have just lets say a 2.0 ratings that could be added in at no additional cost, it brings the cpp down, so it is a better deal for the buyer. That is why you would hear spots for the Juniors Department at Filenes all the time on AM 1430 when they were adult standards. And maybe those Grandmothers listening to Bing Crosby would pick up something nice for little Suzzie and then again maybe not.

I still think it's going to be fsr since the sports hub will lose it , when CBS sports starts up on overnights andoff hour programming.

You could be right. We really do not know what they are going to do but the coedy idea is novel. I they are going Fox Sports, I would have gone with great moments in sports gaffes. The call of Bill Buckner's error in Game 6 of the 86 World Series. Billy Cundiff missing a field goal kick... :)

Menino: the "ionic moments" of Boston sports like when "Varitek split the uprights" to help the Pats win

Double points for that post RR. A sports/political gaffe. Would you like to try for three:)

And man I need to double check my posts before I send them. My last post makes look I am a 3rd grader.

Menino of course talked of the "rollin' rally" and talked about where the "potta potties" and "jumbletroms" are.

Comedy 1200 could be temp who knows and yes maybe indeed from within the company. Not sure if it can make a profit but I have mentioned the 850 in Norfolk VA. When I visited my cousin down there a yr ago it had just flipped, I think, and it was still on a couple wks back when I went down there. It does have ads, etc.;
maybe the sister stations got accounts and told the advertisers "We'll throw your spots on the 850, too..."
(Sure enough Wiki. says WTAR switched to comedy in June of '11. Sister stations of "Funny 850" include
WNOB 96.9 aka variety hits "Bob", news talk WNIS 790 etc. Yes, "advertise with us and we'll throw your spots on 850, too...)

But hey it can get ratings, too...? From the Venta article
>>The Comedy format as produced by 24/7 Comedy has produced good ratings on translators in Austin and Kansas City and AM’s in Norfolk and Raleigh among others.

(from top of page: "I could tell my parents hated me. My bath toys were a toaster and radio--Rodney
Dangerfield"

I am not sure if any of the big companies own it, but there is an all-comedy station on FM in Kansas City. I believe it is on 102.5.

It's a five-minute (more or less) loop, for goodness sake!

But isn't it on a 5min loop ? Not much right there for extendEd listening.

I just wish the loop of quotes was a lot longer. You hear everything in about five minutes.

Actually, it appears to be exactly 10min (well, actually about 9:59.9-10:00.0! ;D).

Close! I recorded it and scoped it in Adobe Audition to save it and I have 9:59.78

Just before the clip repeats, you can see a very slight DC bias, so I used it as a reference point :)

But DEFINITELY a stunt

6.07 MHz. which comes into boston 24/7 on 49 meter band from toronto, actually is a Comedy format, outside the normal morning/evening-drive/news hours . Canadians are a step ahead of us and our "stunts"

How about John Kerry referring to the Green Bay Packers' stadium as "Lambert Field"? ::)

Ted Kennedy saluting that great home run hitter, "Sammy Soozer."
