Comedy 1560 KEBC

I was scanning the FM dial today, and discovered that the translator at 96.5 is no longer rebroadcasting KQCV-FM. It is now rebroadcasting KEBC 1560, which has dropped Radio Disney in favor of an all comedy format.

Anybody know how long this has been in place? Kinda nice to have one less FM translator repeating religious programming, as KQCV-FM is still rebroadcast on the 95.5 translator.

I've been listening a little over a week now. I find it a refreshing change from the rest of Oklahoma City radio. I've listened to it so much, I am starting to hear them recycle comedians though. Hopefully they won't run out of material.

I had no idea they were broadcasting on FM. I just checked it out. Nice.

It's recent. I don't know exactly when it happened, but I believe KEBC joined 24/7 Comedy about two weeks ago.

Clear Channel last year put Comedy 24/7 on its 50,000 watt Boston station 1200 WXKS when it dropped a Talk format. I guess it didn't do well in ratings or sales because last month they dropped Comedy for Bloomberg Business Radio.

Comedy 24/7 did come back to OKC sometime in March. According to the Radio Locator website it's 1000 watts day/250 night and the transmitter site is west of I-35 and south of SE 29th. Driving down I-35 there is what appears to be a cell tower in that area, but no other tower is visible. Have not had the chance to do any closer examining of it. I don't know where the 96.5 translator is, but it doesn't have much coverage, from NW OKC, I can't hear it. It's owned by Tyler.

I listen to it quite a bit. Yes, they're recycling not just comics, but also bits from those comics. I have heard some very funny material!!

The two KEBC 1560 towers are short enough that you have to exit the interstate and turn west on 29th street. The towers are north of 29th street.

The current 96.5 is near Crossroads Mall. At 75 watts and 145 meters above ground level, it doesn't cover the NW metro well. They are relocating 96.5 to a tower near Wilshire and Kelly, with a power increase to 145 watts and a height increase to 291 meters above ground level. The new 104.5 translator will be co-located on the same tower, with 250 watts of power. You should hear the new 96.5 and 104.5 well in NW OKC.
