Comedy Central greenlights 'Sports Show with Norm MacDonald'

No premiere date is listed - but I wouldn't be surprised if it started airing Wednesdays at 10:30 PM... just like 79 of CC's other previous "new" shows...

norm mcdonald was the first one to do the weekend update bit on saturday night live i thought was funny after the original cast left.

too bad he got fired for his o.j. simpson material.

I'm surprised they got away with a bit in which Tim Meadows, portraying OJ in a bit, uttered the N-word.

CC's other sports-themed show "Onion Sportsdome" is not doing well, why would they green-light another sports-themed show?

Maybe NBC SportsNet....er...Versus would like to add some entertainment programming to their schedule to differentiate themselves from ESPN, FOX Sports Net, etc. I have a feeling that they'll be phasing out the hunting shows with Dick Ebersol taking over the network (oh, I forgot...Ebersol is not a big fan of MacDonald).

Huh? Sportsdome pulled over 1.3 million viewers last week:

Not big numbers, but a show like Lights Out would go to the mat for that amount of viewership.

Let's see how many of those "viewers" were actually people who left the TV on after "Tosh.0" waiting for "The Daily Show" to come on (even though TDS was in repeats this past week). If it wasn't for its gigantic lead-in, "Sportsdome" would have a difficult time gaining 300,000 viewers an episode.

If CC was enthusiastic about The Onion's TV programming, they would have picked up "Onion News Network" (which should have a more compatible audience for TDS), instead of letting it flounder on IFC.

o.j.`s golf buddy was an NBC execitive in the west cost.he didn`t like the way o.j. was joked about on the weekend update skits.he got things in motion for mcdonald`s firing.

They gave the show a timeslot in which they thought the show might make the most of it. Um, yeah...that's sort of how the networks have been doing it. You don't have much of a point here.

Or not, considering Comedy Central already had the satirical news show thing covered--twice nightly, Mondays-Thursdays. That, and we've seen production companies/writers/sports leagues create shows and programming for different networks--Jerry Bruckheimer, J.J. Abrams, Mark Burnett, the NBA, the Bassmasters Tour...why should The Onion be limited to Comedy Central?

I still disagree with you here. Remember how in the '90s, NBC had a problem with shows that were placed Thursdays 8:30/7:30 Central (between "Friends" and "Seinfeld"), and 9:30/8:30 Central (between "Seinfeld" and "E.R.") that had an audience who might or might have not been watching the program - maybe they left the TV on and did something else until "Seinfeld" or "E.R." started? I believe this is the case with "Onion Sportsdome." If the show were any good, it would be retaining most of the "Tosh.0" lead-in, which it ISN'T.

Besides, sports shows aren't a good fit for CC. Don't they have a sister network called Spike TV that is aimed toward a more compatible audience, or has MTV/Viacom given up on that network?
